I know everyone's really high on Allen right now but I saw Wentz 2.0. I wasn't particularly impressed. We should have beat this team (and by a lot). Allen took some god awful sacks trying to go off-schedule. Fumbled. Threw a horrible floater on first down with the lead. Held onto the ball way too long.

There were definitely a lot of broken coverages by the Rams that game that they exploited. Allen also was pretty efficient in the redzone. But overall, the quality of play by the Rams on offense was just so much better. Even in the first half.

dunno man... he avoided the rush a lot with his legs and then would complete a huge chunk play. He had 4 touch downs passing and 1 rushing - and like a 130 qb rating... prob should have been a 150 rating because he really didnt throw an interception.

He may not ending up being better than wentz - but for a 3rd year QB he is trending upwards.

Can anyone explain why we went back to LA though only to travel back across country? Wouldn't it have been better to do something similar to what the whiners did???? Was that an option? I'm a bit confused about that and if we are going to use that as an ingredient in the recipe for our loss I have to ask that question. I am very curious? Was it just a coaches decision cause if that's the case then I would strongly disagree with that.

This is like a Gurley situation where you need to put the stats in context. The first scoring drive was on the legs of Singletary. After a number of goal line stands Allen ends up throwing a short pass for the TD. The next Bills scoring drive was due to broken coverage (40 yard gain on an uncovered receiver). Third TD was an uncovered TE leaking out. Next TD was a bad throw to Diggs that he saved. Last TD was another short throw to the TE to end the game.

He did throw an interception worthy ball. It was 5 yards behind the receiver and a floater. Totally unnecessary on first down when his team has the lead. He made that throw as he was being dragged to the ground. Hill would have picked it if he wasn't pushed out of the way.

Passer rating tends to over value passing TD and YAC and undervalue actual air yards. I don't have a PFF subscription but I would bet that Goff was graded much higher on a play-by-play basis.

He's not horrible, but I thought his play was worse than Dak and on par with Wentz. I think the Bills also have a much better D than the Eagles.

I’m likely an idiot, but I feel like I’m expect more from Ramsey. He’s been great but I just feel like he’s not $20m great and a huge difference maker in the field. Maybe that’s because he’s so good that QBs don’t throw his way. Still, I feel with the hype and amount paid to him, there would be more. Hopefully it’s coming.

I hope it is installing a new defense causing Staley to be cautious until everyone is on the same page. Also consider the possibility that this is Staley's year to learn which players actually fit what he wants to do and which don't. Maybe he's just going with the best he has. Corner is certainly looking like a need next off-season, unless the DBs step up.

Its the second cross country game against a team that maybe the defense is not in sync enough to play well yet.

I cannot believe that this is not a big issue. The article I linked clearly said it was a league rule. https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/09/15/rams-eagles-bills-travel-covid-19/

Me too. I thought he'd be more of a QB in this defense. Maybe that is not his role. Maybe he's still adjusting to the defense.

Even though I think it could be related to scheme, Im commiting myself to worrying about Troy Hill.

Right before the **ahem** Interception I was thinking JJ needs to seriously step up hos game if he wants to get paid next year by someone. As far as our pass rush? Well, Allen is a big dude and hard to bring down. Like someone mentioned, very reminiscent of Rothlesburger. If it had been a normal pocket QB yesterday we woulda probably had 6+ sacks.

It was one game......................................................................

We went across country for a 10am game the second week in a row. Against a good young team with a good young QB and an all world WR.

It was one game............................

Valid points you make. We get that, but this also isnt s “sky is falling” type discussion.

Its just one discussion.

And on a discussion board too.

Sky’s falling is your phrase not mine. I never said people can’t discuss things. This also isn’t the only thread about the defense or secondary. And if you go into gdt and post game threads there’s a lot of worrying and even more dramatic hyperbole.

We’re three games into a new scheme they take time to adapt to. Like @jrry32 said in another thread and like I’ve seen fans of Fangio teams say his scheme usually takes half a season to get down. We didn’t have a preseason e didn’t even have friendly scrimmages. I’m not sure what people expected but growing pains were clearly going to happen in any year when you change defensive schemes. Throw 2020 into it and you see what we’ve got.

Sorry to interrupt the discussion with my opinion, that it’s one game and too early to worry about anything.

I would like to see more of Gaines on passing downs, he had some penetration yesterday in his limited play time. Robinson would be a huge boon to the defense though if he can come back and play at the level we expect.

Ebukam I am done with. Was hoping we'd upgrade in the offseason but it didn't happen unless Lewis can come back from injury and be a good rookie player. Hollins at least showed up at times yesterday so maybe he's a replacement there. It's obvious the Rams coaches think the same as Ebukam's snap count has slowly disappeared every week. The last two weeks he has done nothing.

I agree, let's see what Gaines has. He seems to have a little penetration to him. It's also nice to see Ebukam snap counts going down. It's clear that he's maxed out and he's a backup at best.

Hill is playing out of Position, he isn't a slot DB, Long or Williams should be our slot DB. Im not sure why they put him there but it doesn't make sense. Hill can play but strictly outside. He's getting torn up over the middle.

Well even I know better to go into the game day thread lol

Im not terribly worried myself personally, Im just reading mostly, but if you’re seeing multiple threads and comments and “hyperbole” then odds are theres a legitimate reason.

How you downplay that it is up to you, but in my general experience Ive noticed your tendency to try to police thought. If you wanna mask that as sharing an opinion, then your apolgy is accepted.

I do agree that its too early to worry too much. My antennae is up though on our young CB’s

Seattle is on fire on offense though

Sure. But McVay is 4-2 against them, and Donald is 8-4 against Wilson since he came into the league.

With McVay, we've shut down their offense three times (under 20 pts), and we've given up over 30 points three times. Each of those we lost once - the former, Kupp's rookie year he had the game winning TD hit him in the hands, the latter, well, is why GZ is a Cowboy.

The times Seattle has scored 30+ points on us, Wilson was nearly perfect against us - and we've gone 2-1 against him and it should be 3-0 under those circumstances.

But the last time we played them, they didn't even score a TD on offense, and they had one of the best offenses in the league last year. We match up against them pretty well on defense, and even though I can see him throwing 300+ and 4 TDs on us, how are they going to stop us? They have great run defense and possibly the worst pass defense in NFL history.

Troy Hill is who Troy Hill is, he's a solid 4th or 5th CB and can fill in in spot starts. He's never going to shut anyone down, he'll give up 9 plays and make 1 play to make you forget.
Uh, I never forget. He gives up so many passes that in training camp, we wouldn't even count catches made with Troy Hill in coverage.

Thanks man yea I got that just was wondering about why the whiners were able to do it and we weren't. I guess it was because the 1st string is all hurt so they went bk to SF and only the 2nd remained east to play the giants lol.

That bad? I'm not sure if he's getting burned so much or just always gives too much cushion.

I’d agree with you if he hadn’t shown progress over the few seasons he has been in the NFl.

My Roethlisberger comparison is more about his build and how tough he is to bring down. I swear AD was the only one on the DL that could actually out muscle him all game.

jury is still out though, I give you that.

The fan reaction is due to underrating Josh Allen. He is young and a fucking stud. The guy got shit on like Goff for the most part but he's worked his ass off and what we've seen in the first few games is a player who has raised the quality of his game immensely in the past year.

What makes Josh special is his strength. Being so hard to tackle is not a size thing, it's a balance/anticipation/understanding of physics thing. The only real comp on that is Big Ben.

But unlike Big Ben this guy has the body control and running ability of Cam Newton. It's very similar IMO.

Lastly his accuracy (which killed him last season) looks like a different QB. The guy made some great throws vs us yesterday, some clutch throws that we won't see vs a lot of our upcoming opponents. Like that one where he was scrambling and put it down the sideline I mean damn. That was some Russel Wilson shit.

I know some don't like giving cred to opponents. But IMO some fans around these parts need to realign their views with the reality we're currently situated in. Allen is for real man. Hopefully we see him again and get a chance to put him on his ass.
