This one says we are gaining 12.75 mil in cap space....

Goff is costing us $34.95 million total in 2021. We are paying only $22.2 million this year so we're paying Jared $12.75 million less than what we would have to play for us. We now though have to pay Stafford and before any extensions/reworks he's costing us $20 million this year. So if we kept Jared we'd pay the QB position $34.95 million instead as it stands right now we're paying it $42.2 million. So Jared is costing us less money than he would have but this didn't lower our cap commitments to the QB this year at all.

The wording is different and this costs Lions more too in the end. Stafford for them had a cap hit of $33 million but they're on the hook now for only $19 million but they're paying Jared $27.8 million so they're paying the QB position even more than us this year.

Yeah, I was just on Over the Cap and Spotrac and yeah.

I expect for the Rams to restructure AD and Ramsey and extend Stafford prior to 3/17.

With $21M in a down year, the Rams have the flex to do a number of things.

And if we restructure Woods and Kupp, we can save an additional $38M...

And in 2022, our dead money goes from $31M to... ZERO so far (we'll have about $1M due to the draft...

The more I think about this... the more this might work out!!!

We gave the Lions a 2022 1st and one of our three 3rd rounders this year to take it is how.

I am going from here on that the Rams gave the Lions a 2023 1st round pick for Matthew Stafford! (that's it)

Still makes snead look bad giving goff that extension after year three when there was no pressure to do so. Using your formula besides the damage to the cap that extension caused it also cost the rams a 1st and a 3rd.

The Rams can create a lot of 2021 cap space by restructuring the contracts of some, or all four players.

If the Rams simply reclassify a significant portion of the Salary to Bonus, the 2021 cap hit decreases.

For example, if you reclass $16M of salary-to-bonus, and the player has four years left on his deal, that creates $12M of 2021 cap space. The player gets the same $16M (no change for him) but the Rams get to spread out the same $16M over four years for cap purposes.

The payment is all in 2021. Only the cap hit changes.

It’s not all positive because the cap hit is increased in the future years. In the example above, by $4M each year in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

It'd make sense to do it this season because next season the cap should go up and we should have less or no dead money.

Wondering right now if they get to let's say $20M what they do with it. Do they tag Floyd? Or go get a Center in FA. Or something else. Very interesting.

its does seem reckless... but i guess we will see if they can get away with it.

A fan on another team described it like this. The rest of the NFL is playing with a 195 million salary cap the Rams are playing with 165 million. Nobody can deny Snead and McVay are building a good team. But what could we have done with that money spent on say a top of the line Guard or Center and whatever else you want. That's 3 veterans that make what Floyd did this year.

I'd be ecstatic if this deal was for Watson instead of Stafford, personally. Hell, I'd be ok if the deal was for Stafford but gave away one less first round pick. It just seems like a lot (because it is a lot).

But, like Old School, I'm going to be cheering on Stafford because he's the QB for the Rams. I think they'll get past this salary cap hurdle too. I just wish they didn't have to. This can't look good to prospective free agents. This just makes them (the Rams front office) look like they think players are just cogs, not flesh and blood. True or not, optics are bad here on top of waste.

Keep the band together as much as possible on defense (Keep 2 of Williams/Johnson/Floyd/Hill). Add a stud FA interior OL. Find a burner WR/return man thru draft or on the cheap thru FA. Then Just Push Play.

They may try to retain Hill. I know some don't like Hill, but I would like them to retain as much of the secondary as they can.

My thoughts on your thoughts......OLB Floyd has more importance to this team going forward than DB Hill.

Highly probable new DC Morris has starting corner Jalen Ramsey entering his 6th season, starting corner Darious Williams entering his 4th season, corner Donte Deayon entering his 5th season & David Long, now entering his 3rd season has played in 26 gms with 1 start. Morris will also have corner Nickle-Back Terrell Burgess back from the IR. Rookie corner Tyrique McGhee is under contract too.

Snead's team had an impressive history of finding talented DB's since he was hired in 2021 not so good @ drafting starting OLB'ers. DC Morris will be left with no previously starting LB'ers on the roster other than Justin Hollins. who was cut by Denver last season.

I would think that ER/OLB coach Chris Shula will be highly concerned with the talent level & health of his cadre for 2022.

One correction... we poached Hollins off of Denver’s practice squad. I know because when we did it, my Broncos friend ripped me a new one for poaching his players... he really liked him
