Based upon the numbers from overthecap.com:
Trading Goff = $22,200,000 dead cap space, but $12,750,000 cap savings
Obtaining Stafford = $20,000,000 added to salary cap

Keeping Goff = $34,950,000 against the salary cap
Obtaining Stafford = $42,200,000 against the salary cap

And this is only if Stafford's contract isn't redone which will probably have to be agreed upon before the trade becomes official in the league office, IMO.

Goff had best fall on his face in Detroit, and Stafford bring the Rams a SB win, that's all folks!!!!!!!!
train
They (Rams) have a better chance of getting to the S.B. with Stafford and obviously after trying for 4 years to wake up Goff, McVay had (had) enough. Conservatively Goff cost the Rams 3 games this season, not to mention turning over the ball in 15 straight games.

I honestly don't quite understand how a few here actually thought Goff would somehow mysterious solve all his problems, especially after 4 years of McVay holding his hand....this division REQUIRES a QB who can at times pick up the team and carry it to victory. Exactly how many times have we seen that from the 130 million dollar man?

Goff looks the same to me as he did in his final year at Progressive U. aka Cal., he just doesn't have what it takes beyond his perpetual "tweener" stage performances.

While I'm not thrilled the Rams gave so much for a 33 year old QB with likely no better than 3 more years of upper tier starter productivity, hopefully the Rams will find find someone between now and then who can lead this team for the long haul. In the meantime, Goff don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out....

As for Goff at Detroit, he's a place holder while they rebuild, no more than that...as for him falling on his face.....as has been repeatedly pointed out, after 5 years, it's obvious he is who he is and without McVay holding his hand, this dude is essentially lost in space.

Lose 7.25 mil but gain over 10 mil in cap space for next season. Gotta assume a short extension coming soon to knock that cap hit for this year down.
Why don't we let Kronke worry about salary caps, it's our job to enjoy the competition and run to the playoff's.

One things certain, 5 years of Goff has been more than enough for most of us. To me, there is no doubt the Rams have a better shot at winning the west over the next two years with Stafford than Goff who's has more flaws than an Edsel.

So who can we trade that has both trade value (picks for cheap players) and salary to get some cap relief? It seems all those that qualify for those two would be too valuable to us winning in 2021 to trade. Kupp/Woods, Hav, Brockers, Higs, Robinson. Maybe if you knew you had a cheaper vet replacement you could trade one or more of these guys. But really if you are going all-in to win now, then these guys are all needed.

The Rams cannot be absolved of anything the Lions only take on the base salaries each year and the roster bonuses same with us for Stafford. We went from $13 million over the cap to between $33-37 million over the cap (keep in mind most of these show the top 51 right now and it'll be top 53 that matters so add about $1.6 million to what we're in the hole). Get ready to lose more of your favorite players and have no OLine. It will be Ramsey and Donald on defense with a bunch of draft picks there will be nobody else. Congrats Les Mad Mike Snead 2.0 you've done a number that not even that clown could do to the team. And we are being told an extension for Stafford is coming so we can push even more cap in to future years. GG on completely shitting all over this team Snead and McVay.

Hope everybody is happy with shit sandwhiches because you got what you wanted! Well some of you got what you wanted the rest of us got shit on.

I understand the frustration but that's a bit over dramatic.

Exactly, when it's all said and done it'll probably come out to almost a wash of salary cap for the next couple of years at the QB position. Amazing after the last couple of years people don't think the Rams FO can manipulate and use the cap to do what they want with it. They will give Stafford a contract extension and it'll spread out the cap hit over the next three to four years likely.

Fact without cap space funds there will be little to no veteran UFA to help replace the veterans departing this season. The Rams have 14 UFA's & RFA's departing. Seven are starters!

There is a very good chance several starters like Andrew Whitworth, Micheal Brockers & Rob Havenstein will either be released or traded for very little in value. Once again not a good trending operation.

Those Ram FA's will be replaced by younger, less experienced & more likely less talented players. That is not a positive trending for a team without any major draft capital until 2024.

Every year we're in this position and we as fans fret... and then we carry on the business of putting a winning football team on the field.

The only fret I wanna care about going forward is a guitar fret and I don't even play.

And now it's time for platitudes...

Don't worry, be happy!

This, too, shall pass!

It's always darkest before the dawn!

Your Uncle Lou had a mole just like that and the doctor said it was fine...

Now doesn't everyone feel better???

I think it's one of Kupp or Woody. Or maybe Hav. Those are the most obvious options at least, where we have depth and need something else so it's moving money to another position.

Restructuring contracts creates cap room in 2021 but it reduces cap space in 2022 and later, depending on how it’s done.

Ok I figured it out we restructure Donald, Ramsay, extend Stafford.

Now we have 21 million available.

We trade all of our second rounders for 4 years for Goff.

Allow him to compete with Stafford in camp.

Goff ends up winning (all they wanted was to bring someone in to compete remember) ...it’s like scared straight.

Now that he’s our backup, We trade Stafford and our 2045 1st Rd pick for Andy Reid

Andy Reid challenges McVay to a belly flop contest and wins easily.

Now, having been humiliated in front of his team for losing the contest, McVay blames Goff and trades him and Our 2046, 2047, 2048 first round picks to re acquire Stafford...

That's true but we'll be losing the massive amount of dead cap at the same time. Barring us cutting or trading anyone else a year after giving huge extensions for at least.
