Stetson Bennett was dealing with a ‘bunch of everything all at once’ during mysterious Rams absence

“I feel like everybody kind of… I’d say after the first [national championship] people wanted me to leave… somewhere in the second natty season,” he said. “The whole first national championship season I was not certain of myself… I was on the field because if not you’ll get run over, but as far as asserting myself as the starting quarterback on the Georgia Bulldogs, but it was very much so that feels like a big pile of [s–t].”

Stetson’s sounding like someone who posts on here from time to time.

This is life. People gonna doubt you. It is why we respect resilience, courage, strength, etc.

The fact Stetson did what he did should help him to possibly overcome doubts again at this level. Because they'll be there for sure among the staff. As to the fans, everyone has an opinion, so players shouldn't let that shit get to them ever. And if they do they won't be players for long.

Yeah. Compare what Bennett just said to how Tom Brady was in Michigan and when he got drafted. He was constantly doubted in college and drafted in round 6. Then tells Belichick “You will never regret picking me.” Belief in yourself is important for QBs. We saw when Goff quit believing in himself in LA. Nothing against the kid personally but Bennett doesn’t sound like an NFL QB.

Now that is one thing I will agree with you about Goff. He definitely stopped believing in himself at the end in LA.

100%.

With all the fanatical Goff supporters at the time it’s something you could just see, guy didn’t have ‘it’ and it was hard to put a finger on it at the time.

Now he has that changed him since being traded lit a fire under him.

Why Tyler Davis could be Rams X-factor on the defensive line

One of my biggest concerns about the state of the Los Angeles Rams' defense has been their defensive line depth (or lack thereof). The room is relying on too many young/unproven players in the post-Aaron Donald era, and it could bite them as it did in the secondary the last two seasons.

The starters seem relatively set, though it is a bit of a projection for both Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske to be three-down players. Turner rarely played in base looks last season, often coming in during sub-packages, as the Rams opted to put Jonah Williams out there over him. While this could have simply been a case of not wanting a rookie to do too much, now Turner will be asked to take on even more responsibilities without Donald next to him.

Fiske is a three-technique, much like what Kobie Turner is. He's undersized with below-average length and doesn't have a lot of mass on him, making him a projection to be able to play on base downs. Ask any draft analyst out there and I doubt you'll find anyone thrilled about Fiske playing the run in a two-gap approach or handling double-teams as a 4i. I wrote in my scouting report that Fiske would be best served as a sub-package 3T in the NFL early in his career. Fiske is penciled in for this role, but he might not be the best suited for it.

So who could fill that role as a base starter? To me, the answer to that is sixth-round pick Tyler Davis.

From his scouting report sent right after the team drafted him:

"His 6'2, 301-pound frame is well-built and he can hold his own against double-teams in the run game. Davis is a superb two-gap defender and is at his best in the run game, where he uses his hands well to get off blockers and has the ability stretch out a play laterally. He isn't much of a factor as a pass rusher, likely limiting his upside and why he fell so far in the draft. However, he's a smart, powerful player who should be the Rams NT insurance and be part of their rotation up front."
Davis's ability as a two-gapper makes him an ideal fit to play that 4/4i spot for the Rams up front, as that role requires a better run-stopper than a pass rusher. The Rams' gap-and-a-half defensive front requires longer, stronger linemen who can hold up at the point of attack. In their 2021 Super Bowl season, the Rams had Greg Gaines, Sebastian Joseph-Day, and A'Shawn Robinson controlling rushing lanes rotating at this spot. Their work freed up both Von Miller and Aaron Donald to move around the formation. Davis could fulfill this role, freeing up Turner, Fiske, and the rest of the Rams' pass rush.

Nobody expects much out of sixth-round picks, but the Rams have had a solid track record of Day 3 defenders. Tyler Davis could be another one and play a much larger role than people might expect.

My X-factor is not Tyler Davis, but another rookie D-lineman: David Olajiga. Massive project, but he’s an athletic freak of nature at 6’3”, 319 lbs.

Where is our defensive guru who demonstrated the rams don’t run 2-gap?

Rams rookie Braden Fiske's ridiculous foot speed is on display in this workout video

Story by Cameron DaSilva

As training camp approaches, Fiske is getting himself in shape and ensuring he’s ready for the grind of the summer. In a recent workout video of the rookie defensive tackle, he shows off his foot speed by going through multiple drills and it’s eye-popping.

He looks proper quick, but boy does he look LIGHT! I wonder what he is actually weighing in at right now?? Maybe it's just me, but I'm worried he could get pushed around at that size..... Assuming dudes can get hands on him, haha.

I guess it depends on how they deploy him, and with him working out with AD, I have my ideas about that....

Jordan doesn't have Texans on her list. Aren't Rams supposed to scrimmage with them also?

You remember the interview where AD gave his actual playing weight - right? Granted - that's AD but if you can get leverage and are quick, I think weight is just not quite as big of a deal.

Agreed, but as you stated.... that's AD. AD is a generational talent with strength and speed that were unmatched. I love Fiske, but (IMO) he will need to be used strictly as a 3 tech....at least for now. Nothing wrong with that, but we will need BB3 and the other younger big men to stop the run.

They'll let anyone write an article nowadays. That relationship was the other way around: Von Miller and Aaron Donald overwhelming the opposing OL made it easy on those boys.

This front has their work cut out for them. I like the talent level, but they may need some time to settle in as a unit. There won't be any real bigtime threat to carry them like Gaines, Day, and Robinson had going. It's them.

I do agree with the sentiment though that Davis might be important for us. But this is because I think Brown has a ton to prove so I figure we're gonna need Davis. But of course you never know. Brown did make some small strides last season. We're gonna need a lot more this year from him though.
