Every year across the league there are new overpaid players and cap hits to complain about and discuss. In my science fiction fantasy world, athletes salaries are not public information.

All class, right there. Remember when Sam Bradford refused to restructure his contract and we dealt him to Philly?

Now we have a true leader at quarterback. I hope Goff stays with us for the rest of his future HOF career. :D
In all fairness, Bradford refused a paycut.... A restructure can be done at anytime. Has no effect; on the player. Just the team accounting of how the player's money is classified as... Salary or bonus.

Goff did not say he would take a pay cut.

I just noticed that both sites I use for cap space do not yet include Floyds ten million dollar contract. Perhaps it has not yet been finalized. If it included we are 15 million plus over the cap.

Bradford wasn't asked to restructure his contract, he was asked to take a significant pay cut. To make it easier to trade him.

i wouldn't let that FO off the hook, dumb shits all. Georgia, Shaw, and all rest...screwim

They were but this was with Fisher and snead. Two years had gone down the gurgler due to Sam's injuries. They'd had enough. Bradford and his agent knew what was up and refused to budge.

That's fair, but given how much money Bradford had made, you'd think that he would be a team player and take a pay-cut. I get the feeling that Snisher would've kept him if not for the refusal. That's always stuck with me.

Still, it doesn't invalidate what I said about Goff: total class act, and I hope that he sticks with us for the long-term.

The salary cap is what I call legal fiction. It's not a hard ceiling and can be easily manipulated. Goff's contract has a built-in renegotiation. Once the Havenstein and Hill situations are resolved they potentially could be $5-$6M over the cap before triggering the change in Goff's numbers. That isn't to say that Floyd's contract won't be re-written to be more cap friendly as well. Cap is like business accounting. As a business owner, I had a 6 figure income but via legal manipulation, I only paid 11% in taxes at most. GM didn't pay a cent in taxes for almost 30 years in the same manner. That's why I simply don't get very worked up about cap figures as the bottom line is open to "adjustment".

Right. And I get your point. Here is Goff with a massive NFL success track record ( Super Bowl, Pro Bowls, Top offense) and he is willing to talk about his contract being adjusted to help the team. Contrast that with Bradford who was vastly overpaid with Zero NFL success and he made it clear his Contract wasn’t being touched.

Goff is contractually obligated to adjust some of his salary to bonus money. Bradford was being asked to forfeit money the Rams agreed to pay.

That is about as different as two situations could be.

Considering how much money Bradford had made already - and that he basically held the front office over a barrel during negotiations - you're right: it's an entirely different situation. Goff isn't contractually obligated to do shit, and he's doing it. Bradford may have been asked to forfeit money, but that was for cap reasons as well, and he refused and basically tried to screw over our team.

So you're right in that it's two different situations with two different people.

Whoever writes for Rotoworld is a moron:
"Rams QB Jared Goff said he's open to restructuring his contract to create short-term cap space for the organization.
"If so, I'm all for it," Goff said on helping the team create cap room. "I don't see why not. It doesn't change anything for me, and it helps the team out." Oddly enough, Goff doesn't have any choice in the matter: Los Angeles has an option written into the 25-year-old's lucrative deal that would allow the organization to move money around freely. Given that he wouldn't take a pay cut in this (or any) scenario, it's all but assured Goff's league-high $36 million cap hit in 2020 is moved around to relieve GM Les Snead's poor understanding of the team's books. As it stands, the Rams are in the red with a league-low -$6.21 million in available cap space."

All it takes is one look at our future cap space to realize what a dipshit that writer is.

Did they? Do you have a link?

EDIT: Never mind, I see it. You're right.
Don’t have link but I read they have in the contract the ability to move 16.8 mil of his 36 mil this year into future year signing bonuses. Rembrandt though that Demof is against. Restructuring

why are people trying to make bradford look like the bad guy?

the rams were trying to ship him to the best bidder. who here would give up money, more than half your salary, knowing your employer will ship you away to some place you have no control over?

It was not Bradford's fault the Rams offered him all that money.

Regarding Snead not understanding the team's books, it is not rocket science. I am sure he understands the cap perfectly. It is cap allocation that is his issue. Paying a ton of dough to a running back and a good but not great receiver is not a way to build a championship team. The latter especially since we already were paying Woods a lot.
