I mean it's mainly bad luck. No one expected Gurley to fall off a cliff like he did and Cooks just isn't on the field enough. It's not like they signed free agents they were in house players that they had some bad luck with. Glad they had the balls to make the decisions they made, though. I think we'll be better off for it and not just in the long term. Wouldn't be surprised if the Rams are better this year then last.
"Fall off a cliff"? He had one bad year, and there's an argument to be made he was just being used wrong (and had a garbage offensive line). History is littered with players who had a "bad year" and then came back as strong as ever. Will he still have "fallen off a cliff" if he goes for 1500 yards in Atlanta?
Cooks, sure he has missed time and is always at risk of a head injury, but every palyer in the league is one head injury from retirement. It's actually costing us more to NOT have him on our roster.
Luck has nothing to do with it. It's poor cap management. Even if we go along with the theory that neither of these players will ever amount to anything again (which, again, I doubt), it was still our executive office that decided to hand out a contract 2 years before they had to to Gurley and overpaid Cooks from day 1.
Better this year than last? With everything we've lost and the fact we have no flexibility? God, I want to get a sports book license just to start taking bets from the optimistic. This is a 5 win team.
