To who? The Jets or Jaguars - those are the only teams that are not in the red that I know of. There might be a couple more but most teams are currently in the red
Maybe this information will help you out ....

Below is a list of cap space of 21 NFL teams who are listed as being in the BLACK for 2021. It might be safe to say that there is FIVE teams who have a higher amount of RED in their salary cap than the Rams ........Saints, Falcons, Eagles, Steelers & Packers. The Rams do have the most amount of Dead Money of the five listed above. That can not be helped.

Well I was wrong - I could have sworn I read somewhere teams were having issues with the Covid and that salary caps were hurting most teams

Yes. Sorry Reynolds but your misses negate your hits. The Rams need a red zone target and a derp threat. You are neither.
Oh no, I think he is actually quite a derp threat. That's part of the problem.

More importantly who is going to sign them. I don't think the majority get big contracts. They simply aren't that good. People won't be beating down their doors. Saffold only got 5 mil. He's way better than Blythe. Players like Everett, Reynolds, Fox, Blythe all have their warts. Floyd, Hill and JJ are the only really desirable ones. The rest will be had cheap and could be brought back to the Rams if they wanted. I prefer they keep Hill and JJ but we will see. They don't have a better corner to replace Hill on the roster. JJ at least may be replaced just by the sheer numbers of Good safeties, but he is the best of the bunch.

Unless Hill is cheap, I think he's gone. Darious Williams will remain the #2, Long or another CB will step in as the #3, and we'll draft for depth. JJ seems likely to be gone too. He's going to cost a pretty penny. We drafted Burgess to replace him. With Fuller, Burgess, Rapp, and Scott, I think we have to let JJ walk. I imagine they try to keep Floyd if Staley is still here.

.

I'm pretty sure saffold got $11m per year.

.

Correct.

Correct.

Long will likely be a step down from Hill. Having Long and Williams as CB 2/3 could limit Ramsey’s versatility.

Corner could be a draft need. This defense minus Floyd JJ and Hill will take a sizable step backwards. Hopefully they retain 1 or 2 of them.

Not to be a debbie downer but the Jets at $72m cap space (vs Rams indicates 2 things:
1). The Rams are paying a lot for elite players (Donald, Goff, Ramsey) and the Jets are not. Pressure on the elite players to perform each and every week. That did not happen last week.
2). The Rams have a lot more talent on their roster. A lot more!!! Which means the Jets played with more effort and pride last week than the Rams. That does not look good on the Rams.
Both points can be lessened over the next 2 weeks. I am jopeful but not overly confident.

It's called shit happens, or as everyone has always said... On any given Sunday.

In just the last few weeks, Seattle lost at home to the Giant's & Colt McCoy, the Steelers lost to the Bengals, and the Saints lost to the Eagles.

Like I said, shit happens.

Maybe. But good/great teams face these decisions all the time. You have to let the replaceable guys go. With what Fuller, Rapp, and Burgess have shown, JJ is replaceable if he costs big dollars. As for Hill, he's the #3 CB. He's a solid to good player, but if a team pays him like a starter, we'll have to replace him. Considering how good we've been at developing CBs, I'm not particularly concerned (Hill and Darious Williams were both UDFAs we signed off of waivers).

The Rams didn't treat the Jets with the respect they deserved, and they got beat. It happens. The Colts lost to the Jaguars. The Steelers lost to the Bengals (with their backup QB) and the Redskins. The Seahawks lost to the Giants and their backup QB. This is the NFL. You have to bring it every week. I don't recommend counting the Rams out against Seattle and Arizona.

Yes teams lose talent each year. Good teams are prepared with good players waiting in the wings, like Baltimore and Pittsburgh with their defenses. But currently the Rams don't have that caliber of player ready to step into the shoes of the three I mentioned. JJ is the best free safety and a defensive captain. Burgess is no guarantee to be able to replace him. Rapp is a SS, so he can't. Nick Scott is backup level.

Who do they have to step into Floyd's role? Ditto for Hill. Finding starting DBs as UDFA's or from practice squads isn't something that happens every year. There are circumstances that have to fall into place for that to happen. It will be interesting to see if they can retain any of Hill, JJ, or Floyd. If all three go, then it will be difficult to cover the losses.

Fuller can play free safety (as can Burgess). David Long Jr. will replace Hill. Floyd is the tougher guy to replace. If he gets too pricey, we could sign another "prove it" vet. I could say Lewis replaces Floyd, but I don't trust his health. I'm not worried about S or CB. You're saying we can't be sure of what we have. Well, every team is in that boat with replacements. Burgess looked damn good before he went down. Rapp can play. And Long Jr. has shown good and bad. But we spent a 3rd round pick on him for a reason. When Ramsey missed the Miami game, our pass defense held up just fine with Long playing over 75% of the defensive snaps. Ramsey is a much bigger loss than Hill.

I should also note that Terrell Burgess can play both S and SLCB. So if we slide Fuller to FS and Rapp wins the SS job, Burgess could also potentially replace Hill if Long doesn't win the role. We'll need to draft another CB and/or S for depth, but we'll be okay.

As soon as the Rams drafted Burgess and Fuller it was over for jj3. I would argue Fuller is more important to the secondary than jj.

And two yrs ago JJ was a 2nd yr 3rd round pick who had not proved much yet.

Troy Hill was an oft beaten 4th CB that would get ripped on here weekly... So guys develop and emerge.

So again, let's see what happens.
