IMO I think the Rams are now going to carry 3 QBs this year and probably next year as well. When Wolford becomes a UFA they will still have another year with Perkins. If he develops on schedule I think they will talk to him and his agent about staying on a two-year deal. By that time Stafford's contract should be done and they will be looking at their next QB. I really think Perkins will be another Taysom Hill type of player. Homegrown QB who has grown up within McVay's system.
Stafford will be pushing 38 yrs old while Perkins will be 29. If Stafford looks like he can play longer and Perkins doesn't reach his potential, the Rams will have options. It's a good situation for the Rams to be in. If Stafford wins a couple of rings during his 5 years as a Ram he might be willing to stop playing and join the coaching staff. What a QB coach and passing game coordinator he would be.
What I see in Perkins isn't necessarily a superstar QB. What I see is a QB that would be a natural fit in McVay's offense to allow them to keep that Super Bowl window open for 10 years beyond Stafford. What Perkins has is perhaps one of the best QB mentors a young player could have. The wealth of information that Stafford can pass on to Perkins is potentially a difference maker in Bryce's career.
I see McVay keeping 3 QBs. There is no way I see Bryce clearing waivers.
