I'll agree with the predictable.

But if I give an honest assessment of what cost us the game it wasn't play calling.

It was about 5=7 huge mistakes by the players.
Yeah that didn't help but we lost because we gave up two unreal runs but more importantly when you turn the ball over twice inside your own 30 it's hard to come make up those easy points. Our defense played their heart out. Really thought we were going to pull off the miracle finish. That sack on 3rd and 2 was the end.

Well, we needed to be able to score more points than 2 offensive touchdowns. Was a problem most of the season. Giving up 28 was also a bit much considering the few points we gave up the last few games excluding the last game of the year.

McVay is predictable.

In the 1st half, we would expect him to run on 3rd & short. And Philly did.

With 1 minute left a run would be more surprising.
This is the logic of young and new fans.

Execution wins titles. Our boys had it right there but made mistake after mistake after mistake. And still could have won with execution at the end.

I'm neither young or new.

I agree that execution is king. I still don't like the call.

More things can go wrong in that situation. Typically, when a run doesn't work you get stonewalled. Ok, now you're at 4th and 3. That's manageable.

When a pass isn't executed properly...well we saw what happened.

Well, if Limmer blows his assignment on 3rd and 4th down like he did in the game today, it wouldn't have mattered what play we called. Carter would have stoned Kyren for a multi-yard loss and then his pressure would have resulted in us not converting the 4th down.

Look, might the game have been different if we ran the ball there? Maybe. Ultimately, it wasn't about whether you run or pass there. It was about our guys doing their jobs. One fuckup undid a brilliant play-call. That's how it goes sometimes.

Nothing against Limmer. He's a rookie. It's the sort of shit that happens when you start rookies. He's given us a lot of good play this year. He'll be back and hopefully better next year.

Disagree again. You don't have to call a run behind Limmer.

I can't be convinced that they couldn't pick up 3 yards in 2 downs.

Agree to disagree on the play call.

I'm hoping they bring in some competition for Limmer. Maybe Jackson.

Also, Limmer is a much better run blocker than pass blocker. (The OL as a whole is.)

There's a much lower chance he blows a run blocking assignment.

What run is going to be successful when your Center literally turns their best DT loose? It's going to be a loss. Hell, for all we know, Carter explodes into the backfield, punches the ball out of Kyren's hands, and the Eagles recover the fumble. Game over.

The chances of Limmer blowing the assignment and not blocking Carter were very low to start. The play was there. No point in MMQBing it. Limmer made a huge mistake at the worst time. That's football.

All Limmer had to do was block his man, and we likely beat the Eagles. Higbee embarrassed the man covering him. McVay called up a great play. Unfortunately, the rookie Center screwed up his assignment, and there went our season.

Fuck, that hurts. Higbee was WIDE open. Great route to call in those slippery conditions.

That coulda been one of the greatest comebacks in Rams history. And it was there for the taking.

Fuck!!!!!!!!!!

Having slept on it, I am even more pissed off this morning than I was last night.

No team has ever played the perfect game. Botched handoffs, dropped passes, missed tackles, blown assignments… they happen all the time, and conditions like those which prevailed yesterday make mistakes more likely. So while incidents like Kyren’s fumble and Beaux’s fuck-up certainly didn’t help us, they aren’t the reason we lost.

We lost because the refs did not call several key penalties on the Eagles. McVay was, rightly, fuming about the hit on Stafford at the end, but the Philadelphia OL got away with numerous holding calls throughout the game, most notably on Barkley’s second long touchdown run.

As I said, we didn’t execute at key moments. But we weren’t even given a fair chance.

And that’s all teams should expect: fairness.

So hard to watch that. We had it won.

But to play Devils advocate, why is Limmer confused on who to block? He's been playing all season and one would expect that with a basic front like that it would be clear who his assignment is.

I mean yes he's a Rookie but he's been in the Oline room all season covering this stuff.

Almost have to ask the Oline coach why this happened.

Without those long runs by Barkley, Rams win. I hope like hell Roseboom and Reeder are not Rams after this season.
Barkley is an explosive back and that is one way to win games.

We need players like that at WR/TE or RB.

Hell, Hurts sucks throwing but he had an explosive TD run as well.

The Eagles could also say, "without those sacks by the Rams we would have blown them out".

Yes, but that is what our defense is good at.

To me this was two top Teams with Unique strengths. In the end it was decided by a few plays at the end.

It appears he thought Dotson would take him, while Dotson thought he'd take him. So Limmer doubled the other DT, and Dotson doubled the DE. Maybe Dotson was in the wrong on that play. Who knows. But Limmer is the guy who had his hand on Carter and then turned away. Frankly, I'm not sure why we aren't doubling Carter on that play. Should have been Limmer and Dotson. But I'm not the guy calling the plays or the protections.

Yeah, I'm not going to complain about the officiating. We've benefitted from it in the past. On the whole, the officiating was fine in that game. They let them play a physical game, and I'm okay with that. We dug our own grave.
