Wouldn’t shortening the zone make pass plays take longer to evolve, with receivers trying to get past DBs, thus allowing more pressure on the QB?

If the Rams stop the run against the Niners and take advantage of their inexperienced interior Oline I’d say pressuring Jimmy G would be a good strategy. I can’t help but think the deep zone will do much after a good YAC team with guys like Kittle and Samuel catching passes.
Yeah the Rams will play their corners up tighter in this one. If not there's a good chance we lose. We won't be able to spot those assholes good field position because chances are our offense will struggle a bit vs that defense.

Up until the historic playoff run last year, the Rams have usually let me down in these big, prime-time games. Just when I thought (and hoped) for a "statement" game on national TV, the team always let me down. I think the last big-time, national game was when the Gurley-led Rams whipped the seahawks in Seattle and the 12th man was gone by halftime (lol).

This time though, it feels different. The Rams seem to face adversity very well these days, and with they depleted secondary and other issues with injuries and such, I am hoping for a big Rams win. I don't care what the score is as long as the Rams win and those bastids in the stands have to shut the F up and go home cryin. Go Rams!
And they were embarrassing losses too, like week 1. Hopefully McVay gets these guys ready for the next upcoming prime time games.

I recall Weddle talking about shifting to three yard zones in the playoffs.

Nice tight pattern matching zones, that's what I want to see. Make Yimmy hold that ball then the rush can sex him up.

49's are going to get SkoRonixed! New wrinkle they will have no answer for. Watch McVay open that up that bag of tricks when we really need something on offense.

To me, the key to this game is how our OL Holds up. If they even do OK, I think we win. If they can't hold up, we will lose a low scoring, UGLY game.

This is my problem with Morris. He plays his "boys" with no regard to scheme fit.

Why do you think he had Kendrick lineup 10 yds off, conceding the easy quick 5 yard completion? Because Kendrick lacks the speed (he timed a 4.79) to play anything else. He has to play downhill as a zone only CB. We saw how badly he was beaten when he had to carry the WR deep.

This is why Rochell should be starting opposite Ramsey. Both Hill (4.55) and Kendrick are too damn slow to play boundary CB. By comparison, Justin Hollins is faster than both of those guys. With Ramsey and Rochell they can line up a hell of a lot closer taking away the quick underneath passes giving time for the pass rush to get pressure. But Morris is so afraid of giving up a big play that he plays conceding FGs not to stop a score period. Anyone who dissects his defensive scheme can see that.

When quarters coverage is your base defense, those quick 5 yard outs will always be there, especially when the boundary CBs are 10 yds off the LOS at the snap. It's nonsensical to continually play that way. Morris might be a nice guy but he's a shitty DC.

I think ideal usage of Kendrick involves him in press at the LOS with safety help over the top. Allows him to play to his strengths. So he could fit fine in multiple schemes doing that, it's more about the call and how you back him up than it is a given scheme.

He's fine in our quarters looks too. The problem is them having him lay off. Not his strength, he has to be getting his hands on that wideout to get the most from his ability.

9ers are going to challenge us outside the hash. So Kendrick's physicality will be welcome in this game.

He can play both. IIRC the only thing that ever really got to him in college was some true speed when he pressed at the line.

There were some plays on his film that made me cringe in terms of how fast the wideout ran by him. So I was surprised when the Rams started playing him outside the hash.

But he did show well there for us so far. And we definitely need him in this game. 9ers are going to test that edge and his run support is excellent too.

Have about 50 people relying on me to keep a sawmill running, not in my DNA.
Called in sick once in the last 20 years.
Well at least you don’t have a desk job. I ran my own business for 13 years. No sick days for me back then either.

I’m MUCH more worried about the offense in this game.
The offense should continue to improve as Stafford gets sharper and Akers gets into a rhythm. His chemistry with ARob will only improve as the season moves along. Plus his deep chemistry with Tutu. I just think giving up free 10 yard completions isn't a good strategy versus a playcaller like Shannahan. Deebo will have more than 4 catches you can count on that.

Now that you brought this up, remember that clown announcer getting so excited last week because Hollywood Brown had so many catches and yards receiving? The Rams were giving him those yards. I think he was 14 catches for 140 yards. That's practically the cushion they gave him on every play. That announcer acted like it was a great achievement.
Exactly he didnt do anything special. Take three steps and turn around. Hopefully we see some new wrinkles from Morris this week and/or some of our DBs get healthy.

Yea I hope I'm wrong and our championship grit and moxie shows up but getting your offense well against that whiner defense is a tough ask. Hope I'm wrong and we decimate them but tough tough ask.
