Fowler is a backup and according to Jags fans not even a good one. He’s a free agent next year and very unlikely to get resigned. He also isn’t likely to get a big enough contract to warrant a comp pick. Trading him now makes sense.

Extremely gifted player who showed something last year. Has had issues staying out of trouble.

Thanks for the education.
I thought he was a starter.
His stats are not impressive, makes sense if he isn't starting.
That would make me lean more toward Irvin.
Low round pick.
Don't know what the cap implications are in trading for him.
I posted earlier that he’s only taking something like 30% of defensive snaps. He has/had talent to be drafted 3rd overall, but we know how that translates. Greg Robinson was drafted 2nd overall.

Mensioning to the press that your looking at improving the outside passrush has to motivate the players in that position a little extra. Coach channeling a little Parcels?

I don't think Fowler is that great, but he'd certainly get a large enough deal somewhere in free agency to warrant a comp pick, though likely not a very high one. For comparison, the Rams are likely to get a 7th round pick for Carrier and he signed an extremely cheap deal with the Raiders ($1.28M per year). Any FA pass rusher with a pulse is going to get twice that.

But the formula also weighs free agents you sign. Are the Jags not going to sign anybody or only guys for less money than Fowler signs for? He would factor in but likely not make a huge difference.

I was thinking about McVay's press conference.

He was asked about the trade deadline by the reporter. I'm sure he anticipated that and thought about it. He's definitely not a "coachspeak" kind of guy (which we all love him for) - so here were his options:

First, say the obvious thing: "we're always on the lookout for how we can improve all positions" - this is a comment he made regarding cut down days multiple times

Second, and what he did say, which was basically "yes" to the reporter who was specifically asking about edge rushers.

I was thinking about this and thinking of it from a leadership perspective - and it makes me think that we WILL make a move today. McVay is the kind of guy who would want to be consistent with his players. Being one day from the deadline, that comment is going to cause too much stress for the Longacres of the world, but coming out and saying "yes" to that question, the players do know what to expect. I think he was being blatantly honest because we are likely to in fact make a move today.

True.
He is young still.
Would probably demand a higher pick than Irvin based on draft spot and age.
Low risk high potential if a low pick is traded.

Chris Harris we need CB help overall if one of the others goes down we are sunk. I would say FS because I hate the play of Joyner but that is not possible.

Low pick would have to be our 6th though and not sure Les would trade pucks in his favorite round

An edge rusher is not the need as I see it. ILB's Littleton and Barron need the help because the OLBs are adequate at best. Ebukam just isn't there yet...but he's a comer.

When the Rams blitz Littleton or Barron right now, they're in trouble if either doesn't get there because they're the best at pass coverage. Someone is gonna get open.

Yes as it is causing me stressed. Of course I'm always stressed. But I believe the Rams want to trade for an edge guy, the question is, can the Rams find a dance partner?

I'd be fine with a 3rd rounder. The guy has some serious talent just hasn't been consistent and tends to take plays off. Could be real good in a rotation with Eku and Co.
If we added Fowler and he quickly got up to speed we could really complete this defense once Talib gets healthy. My Gawd.
We'll see what happens tho, desperate teams set the market with these trades and giving up a 1st for Cooper to Dallas doesn't help anyone else out. ugh

John John can play FS, so we could go after Landon Collins

When is the deadline?

I thought it was 1pm EST.
