really low cap hit next 2 years allowing rams to sign other players. By the 3rd year that 49 mil will look very reasonable if not a bargain because we will win it all again by then while rodgers and watson will be lucky to make it out of the divisional round.
Plus the cap should go up another 10 million at least each of the two years until then. Make that cap say $230 million and the increase is more manageable.

I am not saying the following is 100% accurate but these amounts do reflect Spotrac at this moment.

And, to be honest, I will really miss Robert Woods, was hoping Von Miller would re-sign and I would like to go to sleep feeling good about the Rams. So here is what Spotrac says right now.

Quarterback 2022 Salary-Cap-Hits:
Patrick Mahomes ... $35.8M
Kirk Cousins ... $31.4M
Aaron Rodgers ... $28.5M
Russell Wilson ... $24M
Tom Brady ... $20.3M
Dak Prescott ... $19.7M but shoots-up to $49.1M in 2023
Josh Allen ... $16.3M but scheduled to rise to $39.8M in 2023

Matthew Stafford ... $13.5M, and scheduled to rise to just $20M in 2023

If the above is not accurate, I will face it tomorrow.

Kelly out house hunting as we speak.
Looks like it already happened.
I know everyone is all hunky dory that Staff is signed and sealed, as am I. But this "he took less to build" crap is just a bunch of malarkey and media fodder.
Of course it is. It's all in everyone's head. There's no truth to it.

No he didnt.
Had a year left, could have been franchise tagged.
Rodgers line was in the sand that he was requesting a trade, unless....
You seriously cant debate this, just read any of the 100 or so pages of Aaron Rodgers saga. If not for the gazillion dollar contract, he would have had to be traded
Franchise tagged? In what world would we have tried that? Seriously? Come on dude. How exactly do you see that working?

And Matt not being a diva dickhead somehow proves your point?
Alas, when fandom takes over rational thought
Except that it is being reported by non-"fans".
43 mill per year
Market rate
Deserves every penny
I'll leave the fluff stuff for the Harlequin romance types that need to make it more than that
So you don't think that's a bullshit tactic when discussing opinions? You're not that guy.

The fact is that even though the contract is fair in comparison to several other contracts, it's pretty well accepted that Staff could have gotten more - ESPECIALLY after doing what Rodgers hasn't in years.

You can dismiss the reason all you want. I happen to agree with the idea that he accepted less in the hopes it helps keep talent around him. He's finally in a situation after 12 fucked up years, where he loves playing football again. His wife even said she hadn't seen that gleam in his eyes for several years. She commented on how great it was to see Matthew enjoying football again. And that was early in the season - well before he won his first playoff games and a freaking Superbowl.

I makes complete sense that he didn't try to break the bank. It makes complete sense that the Rams didn't drag this out and try to play hard ball. The two sides got a deal done that worked for both. The Rams got a good deal while not having bad blood. Matthew is being paid good money while allowing the team to have money to pay AD and likely make a couple FA splashes.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to accept or why you seem to be hell bent on denying it could be.

Outside of Brady(puke) no one on the list has more Suoer Bowl rings than Stafford! So they can take the lions share of the cap for their team. Brady never did, when he could have made 40+ Mil years ago. That’s why they had teams packed with talent IMO. Gawd I dislike the guy

Yeah but I was just making the point that, at least as these contracts are currently structured, Stafford is a bargain for the next two seasons.

When people complain about the money some athletes get. I tell them it's either them or the owners and sponsers. Who do we pay to see. Who would you prefer to get the money.

And from what I saw his last two yrs is mostly salary and roster bonuses. So they could walk away from him if he has injury issues etc... And just take a 12M cap hit in 2026 or a yr earlier it would be 2 yrs worth of prorated bonus at 24M, but you could split that over two yrs with a post June 1st designation.

Hell, by 2025, that will be like a couple tanks of gas.

Stafford deal structure...

2022: $1.5M salary + $12M prorated signing bonus = $13.5M cap hit

2023: $1.5M salary + $6.5M option + $12M prorated signing bonus = $20M cap hit

2024: $31M salary + $6.5M option + $12M prorated signing bonus = $49.5M cap hit

2025: $27M salary + $6.5M option + $5M roster bonus + $12M prorated signing bonus = $50.5M cap hit

2026: $26M salary + $6.5M option + $5M roster bonus + $12M prorated signing bonus = $49.5M cap hit
