What a relief. After seeing Watson get $230 million over 5 years, fully guaranteed, after not playing for a year, and having sexual assault allegations circling him... I was worried every QB contract going forward would be downright nutty with that setting the bar.

$160 million over 4 years for Stafford, with $135 million fully guaranteed, is definitely fair value (how ridiculous does that sound! The money these QBs make is ridiculous). Especially with Rodgers just having signed a 3 year deal checking in at $150 million.

Now let's start building around our QB1!

I am not convinced this is his last contract, either. I think it likely. But with Brady playing into his 40s, you never know.

Agreed with others that said Stafford took a bit less. The deal is fair value, but after seeing Rodgers and Watson sign their contracts, you have to think that Matt could have pushed for more and received it. It seems he is making a rational choice, to take a bit less in hopes it will help him win more Super Bowls. :thumbsup1:

I think it's is last contract. He's a big family man. How much is enough? By that time he will have built upon his HOF resume to include multiple rings. I couldn't be happier for the man. After being in Detroit and then in LA he knows the value of having a team around him. GB and Cleveland say hello to cap hell. With no guarantee, you still won't suck.

I can't believe we live in an age where $43M per is taking a team discount. So crazy.

But congrats to 9 and well deserved. Now go win us some more! :trophy:

Could he have put the fire to the Rams FO and squeezed them for a bit more - sure of course because QBs have the power these days. Especially one who just won the SB.

But come on, it’s not like he took way less here. He simply didn’t screw the Rams. But the dude got PAID…let’s pull back slightly on the ball washing.

Excellent contract. Dude showed he can be his best in the postseason with the game on the line.

Cap friendly compared to the massive QB deals we are seeing.

Let’s go get a CB now and run it back!

This is less than Watson got, hard to believe they gave him that much with all his baggage.

Great news! Matthew Focking Stafford just wants to win. Let’s get AD taken care of and find an edge rusher.

I have to think matt knows he could have gotten more but wants the team to be able to build around him. if that's the case, his coming to LA is a bigger impact than I'd originally hoped.

Maybe the advertising compensation from ATT and 30 other companies will fill the money void of signing a team friendly contract....... :laugh1:

To me.. this is the kind of discount extension I was thinking of. It works out to less than 36 mil a year.

Outstanding and shows Stafford is more interested in winning than being highest paid.
