The 11-5 Rams once sitting in the pole position in the playoff hunt are now suddenly in critical condition entering the NFL playoffs like lambs to the slaughter. How did they get there and can they have a miraculously recovery and save their season?

Rams began the season 2-0 and then blew a 19-7 halftime lead in Philadelphia to lose to the Eagles 33-26 on a blocked FG attempt in the closing seconds.

After an impressive win over the undefeated Colts the Rams came out flat to begin the game vs the Niners trailing 17-7 at halftime. A furious Rams comeback that was hampered by a huge Kyren Williams fumble and more FG issues tied the game in regulation but a failed 4th and 1 in FG range to tie the game without any confidence in their kicker led to a 3 point loss at home.

Rams went on a tear with six straight wins and took control of the division heading into a road game against Carolina who had looked like a junior varsity team just one week earlier vs the Niners. Rams overcame an early Stafford pick six and took the lead 21-17 but their defense gave up big plays and with the Rams in FG position late in the game Stafford was sacked and fumbled game over.

After two offensively impressive wins where the defense looked very vulnerable the Rams raced to a commanding 16 point lead over Seattle with 8 minutes remaining only to surrender a TD on another special teams blunder and a subsequent drive to force overtime. Rams opened the overtime with a touchdown but their defense surrendered a touchdown and 2 point conversion to lose the game 38-37.

With hopes of a division title out of reach this Rams failed to show up in Atlanta and the Falcons survived a Rams rally by controlling the ball and driving for a game winning FG to send the Rams to a second consecutive defeat.

Every game the Rams lost they had an opportunity to win in the final possession but they either came up short on offense, defense and special teams in the most critical times in the game.

I can’t remember a string of more excruciating losses in one season in my 60+ years of being a Rams fan.

Can they turn it around? The Rams have shown the ability to beat ANYONE in the NFL but they have also shown their ability to beat themselves with critical breakdowns in all three phases of the game. The Atlanta game was clearly the Rams worst effort all season. Injuries on the offensive line were a huge factor but if you didn’t know the teams records watching that game you would swear that the 7 win Falcons were the better team. They showed more poise, more speed, more discipline and more effort. Rams looked like they slept in for the entire first half.

I still believe that this Rams team if completely healthy ( Dotson, Lake, Adams, Jackson, Corum can beat any team any where in the playoffs but they have to put together their best football from here through the Super Bowl because while they have proven that they can beat any team capable of beating anyone this team still has flaws that could be their undoing.

Rams special teams had an improved showing but one would have to wonder why the Rams didn’t make an offseason move and try to improve this facet because Chase Blackburn’s special teams had already cost the Rams 3 games ( Philadelphia, SF and Seattle) by the time he was fired.

Rams didn’t address any needs other than maybe a backup CB at the trading deadline despite having plenty of draft capital in what could be both Matthew Stafford’s finest and final season in the NFL. Seahawks were buyers and their acquisition of Shaheed for a 4th and 5th round picks gave them a third WR to stretch the field and he was dynamic on returns of punts and kickoffs. Shaheed’s punt return TD against the Rams was a GAME CHANGER. Les Snead went from F them picks to sitting on his hands when his team was on the cusp with an aging QB playing his best football.

I’m glad McVay finally dumped the special teams coordinator. I wish that Les Sneed had been more aggressive at the trading deadline!

I still believe in this Rams team. I can’t remember a season where there was a mixture of dominance and excruciating failure's. This past two weeks have rocked this team’s playoff chances and their confidence. Hopefully they will respond properly. I believe that the Rams 2025 team will go down as either the most impressive comeback or the most disappointing failure in Rams history. Got to win out from here on or there will be a lot of soul searching for the Rams organization going forward.

SUPERBOWL OR BUST! GO RAMS!

Everyone seems to be coming back for the playoff run, Dotson, and Jackson being the most important. As far as controlling your destiny that is more of an illusion. You don't control your destiny in the regular season. The NFL says here's the schedule and this is where you're playing week to week. All you control is how you perform when it's time for the game to start. Look at the playoffs the same. Sure your guaranteed a certain number of home games in the regular season but it's more about being ready to play your best when the football is kicked off.
I think at this point the Defense is what it is, which is inconsistent week to week. The offense however with the O Line ready to play can dominate. Special teams seem to have settled down.
We play on the road to start a week from Sunday. Only question is where? Tampa, Carolina, Philly, or Chicago.

I don't care about the regular season once we earn playoff spot. All I care about is health of players for game 1 and beyond. If we get most of them back in time such as Jackson and Lake than I expect us to kick ass and take names.
I agree that the regular season is in the rear view mirrors but if there isn’t improvement in all three phases of the game along with better effort, consistency and determination the postseason will be a short one. If the Rams defense that has shown up this past two weeks especially doesn’t improve they could easily be dispatched by whoever they face in the first round. This team has a chip and a chair but it hasn’t played like a contender for the past 5 weeks outside of the AZ offensive blowout. Regular season records get thrown out once you’re in the playoffs but Rams have lost 3 of their last 5 games and their only victories in that stretch were against a completely defenseless Lions team that has lost 4 of 5 and 3 straight games and a Cardinals team that will have lost 7 or 8 straight games pending the outcome of Sunday’s game. Regular season tells you who you are. Postseason is win or go home and the Rams stumble down the stretch has made it a monumental challenge.

"On life support". Nonsense.

Playoffs, everyone is 0-0.

Disappointed with the general negativity on ROD recently. We were founded to be better than this.
It’s simply reality not necessarily negativity. Closing your eyes to the flaws and wishing that they magically disappear isn’t necessarily grounded in reality. Rams must improve on their regular season to advance in the playoffs. They have the ability to do that. They won’t be facing the Cardinals in the postseason.

I agree the "Life Support" comment is a bit of hyperbole, but the overall tenor of your post I enjoyed. You summarized our season to date pretty well. The Rams merely need to man-up and be who they can be for this stretch heading into the playoffs.

I believe they will. I look forward to seeing an epic playoff run!

What's on life support is two areas of our team: OL and secondary.

OL comes down to health. If we don't have Dotson it hurts our interior considerably. If we don't have Jackson we are fucked.

Secondary we just gotta hope these boys elevate their games. They can be covered to some extent if our pass rush picks up, which I expect it will. Either way we're all gonna be suckin seat cushion in the 4th quarter when the other team has the ball in the playoffs. But we knew this after the offseason.

I choose to look at it like we could have won EVERY game.

We will be due in the playoffs.....
I agree. Every game we had a chance to win on the last possession. The offense could not get it done against Carolina and the Niners and the defense could not get a stop against Atlanta and Seattle. Special teams blunder cost us the game in Philadelphia. Don’t get second chances in the playoffs so they need to play at MAX Q In all phases if they want to get another Lombardi this season.

I am most certain if the Rams didn’t shit the bed when they should of won this type of thread wouldn’t be necessary, but again we are in a position now where we have very little room for error, and to the OPs point is relevant. Hoping for a strong playoff run.

What would be the narrative if Seattle missed the 2 point try?
Stuff happens, especially in the NFL.
IMO a lot of these analyses ignore the 50/50 tipping points.
They go your way, you're unbeatable. They don't, you're slipping.
Game of inches.

True, if the hawks receiver drops that two point try, or a Lineman bats it down we win. If Tutu somehow comes down with that pass with his arm being held and run into the end zone we win, in which case we are now a "scrappy team that finds a way to win." We are fine.

Exactly. I think that is either unknown by newer members or forgotten by some.

Edit: Sad thing is, when this board was founded, you could understand some of the negativity. How spoiled some have become.

You weren’t around when this board was created. We cringed at statements of negativity that posters cloaked in the realistic moniker.

Call it what you will but because you choose to view things more toward the negative, doesn’t make those who don’t, somehow blind or ignorant.

Many of us don’t see the point in being pessimistic and gripping about the negatives. And that is where the entire idea for this board originated. It was an escape from the “realists” on the PD.

Wasn't the OP the same guy that initiated the " Carolina Will Beat the Seahawks" thread?

I agree ... however,

I’m actually almost 100% a positive poster. The losses that were suffered this year were mostly if not all self inflicted. I guess my original post could have been labeled something other than life support but that doesn’t change the reality of the fact that the Rams have stumbled down the stretch losing 3 of the last 5 games and 2 in a row. A healthy Dotson and Jackson will do wonders for the Rams offense in both the run and pass game. Getting Lake back on defense could do wonders for a defense that hasn’t been the same without him. The changes on special teams could bring that unit up to a level of average performance which could do wonders because that’s been a liability all season long. Rams have a talented roster and for the most part have yet to put together complete games like the 35-7 rout of a depleted Bucs team earlier. They could go on a run and win it all but they have to improve and my op just pointed out where I thought they needed to improve. I have been miserable watching the games down the stretch because I know they are a much better team than this. Hopefully we will look back on these times as battle scars that tested their metal and they responded.
