Rams 2-1

I'm starting a new thread after yesterday's loss.
I see all the frustration and I understand the criticism of the Rams.

What I saw yesterday was a SuperBowl caliber team.

Against the defending SB champs at their field, an early int.

The Rams then showed who they are.

Yes they had the chance to put them away and didn't.
They let them get ahead.

The Rams then got into field goal position (usually a chip shot) and didn't close the deal. But should have been (over 80% of the time on that play alone a W).

The Rams are young on D and getting better.

The O will get better. Avila out doesn't help.

Specials teams: I don't expect another blocked FG all year.

I hate losing. That said the Rams can win it all this year

I’m a homer Rams fan going way back. What I saw yesterday was encouraging but revealing. I knew the Rams were in trouble when they were only ahead 19-7 at halftime (They needed better redzone play especially that overturned TD).
The Rams are short on physical CBs and effective OLinemen. Unless they improve at these positions I’m expecting (optimistically) another 10-7 year and early exit in playoffs.

I’m a homer Rams fan going way back. What I saw yesterday was encouraging but revealing. I knew the Rams were in trouble when they were only ahead 19-7 at halftime (They needed better redzone play especially that overturned TD).
The Rams are short on physical CBs and effective OLinemen. Unless they improve at these positions I’m expecting (optimistically) another 10-7 year and early exit in playoffs.

And every fan can see this which is why it boggles my mind that they go into the offseason and neglect these areas completely in the draft and FA, barring Shelton.

There were numerous lineman and CB’s to take at our spot.

This is Mcvays blindspot. If he had an Oline like Philly we would score dam near 50 points per game, with his mind and innovation.

The subpar Oline makes us competitive but never dominant.

I like Forbes but he is better against receivers like Smith yesterday.

We need a bigger cover CB that can handle big receivers better.

And I have always stated that you should draft 1 OL in the first 4 rounds every year.

3 blocked field goals in two games. One is an anamoly. Two is a concern. 3 is a problem. I don't know if its Karty kicking too low. Or poor blocking up front. But they gotta fix that before it costs more games.

They were playing a defending Super Bowl Champion team that was 18-1 their last 19 games.
I think everyone knew the Eagles were going to make a run during the game. Their offense is too diverse to keep them locked down all game.....it took a multitude of failures for that loss to occur.
Also, post game, Stafford said his back was fine. He got kneed in the crotch on the hit where he slow getting up and sort of stretching after word.

Witherspoon certainly could have made a different matching up with Brown. If they get the ball to Brown he is too physically gifted and big to be shut out, but, Spoon can match up with better. Williams looked like a kid next to Brown. You can just throw it up and let Brown go up and get it over short DBs.

The OL was very good run blocking yesterday, that was not subpar.
The run game allowed for some down field passing as the game went on.
The Rams are getting a lot more explosive (20 yard +) plays this year compared to last......its the finishing the drive in the redone that is rearing its ugly head again.

oline, red zone, special teams. we should have enough players to be good at all 3. if they don't, which it's beginning to look that way, again..... how do they fix it? I mean really? how can McVay be so incompetent in the red zone and oline building after all these years?

It was the fact that we were up 26-7.

If you take one of the Eagles TD drives and put it in the first half and swap a punt for that TD drive, the entire game feels different. It would have been 19-14 at half, then 26-14, but right after that the Eagles respond to make it 26-21. Scoring stalls for a bit, then after the blocked FG they go down and score to take the lead.

Losing on a blocked FG still would have stung - but I am pretty sure without looking that a 19 pt lead is the biggest blown lead of the McVay era. The only thing that comes close is when we were up on the Niners 17-0, but that was the first half. I believe it was 17-3 at half time.


I think most of us had this as an L when the schedule came out - and while there are no moral victories, this would come as close as you can get. We shut Barkley down completely, we won the LOS on both sides of the ball. Took one sack for 0 yards (wasn't a true sack as it was Stafford trying to scramble and it was a 0 yard gain). The biggest thing is, this team doesn't scare us anymore. They aren't actually more talented than us, they aren't better coached. When we play them again, whether its in Philly or LA, the rain, snow or sunshine - we will win.

Oh on the talent front - we are up there with every single team in the NFL, Eagles included.

Our OL and CBs are average - but the Eagles secondary and pass rush is mediocre. The Ravens entire defense seems suspect. The Bills entire roster outside of Allen is pretty meh.

Puka is 1A/B/C along with Jefferson and Chase. I am tired of beating around that bush. While Davante and Stafford aren't always on the same page, we've seen that he is probably the best #2 WR in the league this year.

Kyren and Corum are running very well.

Landman has elevated our LBs.

I guess what I'm saying is - every team has a 'weakness' or average talent somewhere.

AJ Brown is a freak of nature - not many like him. Our CBs shut down Nico Collins in week one. They can play over their heads, and obviously Akhello would have helped. But even without him, what do we have to worry about coming up? Colts, Niners, Ravens, Jaguars, Cardinals, Seahawks....there are some good WRs there, but mostly matching up with Forbes/Williams body types.

We're fine guys. We are one of the best teams in the NFL.....we are in that tier.

Not going anywhere deep in the playoffs until they figure out how to get TD's instead of FG's inside the red zone.

This team will respond the right way. As far I'm concerned we gave the bird fans a story to tell. Eagles fans at work know this wasn't the typical comeback. We can stop the run. How do we stop number 1 receivers going forward? That's the real question. Forbes?

I think it is both.

You're probably right. The first time it happened I'm sure they looked at the film to see what went wrong. Shoulda been corrected. It happened again. So the correction they needed did not happen. Which likely means someone is not doing their job. It better be a focus in practice this week.

It could be a combination of both and IMO, it is time to part ways with Beaux Limmer. He cannot pass protect and he is also on the FG protect team and that is where the pressure is coming from. Also Karty could be kicking the ball low, but he made four other FG's, so what is going on? If he is kicking the ball low, then bring in someone else to pressure him like Younghoe Koo for example.

There are two internal options to replace Limmer in Wyatt Bowles and Dylan McMahon. Bowles is more of a natural guard and bigger and with Dedich's ablity to play center would be a better option,. But please get Limmer off the FG protect team, my God, cannot believe they sent him out there again the way he is showcasing his inability to protect in any fashion.
