This stuff to me is what quarterbacking is all about. People like to talk a lot more about the mobility and the cannon arm, but the QBs that have had the longest and best careers were intelligent ones who knew how to manipulate defenses.

Simpson has the #1 trait for a top QB. We'll see how some of his limitations affect things.

Read my very first post on this.

My take was that if he’s not starting by year 3, the Rams misunderstood the situation.

My point is about the pick and the timeline.

Would I force Stafford out if he had a pro bowl caliber year? No.

Would I if he was middle of the pack and showed signs of aging? Absolutely.

I don't necessarily know what you mean by "misunderstood the situation", but despite what politically correct thing McVay is saying today, they would force Stafford out at year 3 if he was middle of the pack and Simpson was ready.

She also brings up an interesting point about the development of Simpson. She first states that McVay is busy gameplanning the offense and even involved in the defensive meetings. He is not working with a young backup QB or even a starting QB on his fundamentals and development in general.


So then considering the Rams go through offensive coaches almost annually. So how will that affect Simpson's development if his position coach leaves (Ragone) or the passing game coordinator or OC, etc. If they go through many of these guys over the next few years, which will happen if they remain successful, will that hamper Simpson? Will McVay get frustrated easily if Simpson cant keep pace with him as Jourdan put it?

It's a legitimate concern. We'll find out.

He's going to get world class prep from this staff. McVay may not be personally involved in coaching the rooms, but he assuredly sets the course for his staff and manages the players via them and their feedback. So I'd say that if he doesn't work out with the Rams, he simply wasn't good enough for a perennial contender with elite expectations.

He's gonna need to produce. It won't be full pressure like starting will bring, but the Rams will expect him to show well in each milestone they put before him. Seems like a great kid too so I'm sure he'll do the work. But we'll have to wait and see if he's good enough.
