I'm going to push back on that.
There are rookies, like Stroud or Dart (and many more) for example, who get drafted to start right away or play in their first year who do just fine.

And the Rams are a championship quality team.

All would not be lost necessarily.

Stroud can’t get it done in the playoffs by year 3 with the best defense in the NFL…no way he gets it done as a rookie.

Dart won four total games.

Broncos had one of the most complete teams in the nfl and couldn’t get it done without their starter.

Stafford has been on a stacked team for his entire Rams tenure but only made it to the Super Bowl once. Getting to the Superbowl is extremely difficult. I just don’t see a rookie coming in and getting it done.

Rookies are going to do rookie things. That’s not a knock on the talent. It’s just historically accurate.

Agree, season is fucked if we lose Stafford. Stafford is a HOF QB and MVP...... those are rare QBs to have.
There’s a great story about Jon Gruden and Mike Tirico going to a Colts practice a few days they had them for a MNF game back in the mid 2000s. Gruden noticed Peyton got 100% of the reps in practice. QB2 got zero reps. Gruden asked Colts OC Tom Moore why Peyton got 100% of the reps. Tom Moore said “if 18 goes down, we are fucked. And we don’t practice “fucked”.”

That's hilarious

Great piece. Thanks for posting, Memphis.

One question i woukd have liked to seen asked, TWO actually, that if i ever see McVay myself I would ask him.

Point Blank: If Matthew Stafford wanted to continue to play, and continues to play at such a high level that WE want him to stay a Ram, do you have any problem having Simpson sit for THREE years?

2nd question: same question but FOUR years?

I saw a report quoting a highly placed Rams source that stated the ideal scenario is that Simpson doesn't have to play on his rookie contract. If Stafford is still playing at a MVP level, then Simpson is just an amazing insurance policy.

I’ll bet any amount of money that Stafford is not playing and QB1 for 5 more years. lol.

Its words and rank such as this is why I couldn't understand the overwhelming negative criticism coming Ty's way during Draft lead-up. Dont people know Todd does this for a LIVING, and has looked at THOUSANDS of Quarterbacks and knows exactly WHAT to look for???
Is Ty the number two? last season Matt had a bad back in spring training so what IF? I think they should have found a solid backup with NFL experience and grabbed a new receiver or edge rusher at 13.
Do you think Ty can be the number two or will it be Bennent?

This would be amazing, not to mention hilarious as well, if Simpson surpasses the Rodgers and Love sitting periods. We would really be going back to the OLD old days, I believe the Great Ken Stabler as a 1st Round pick sat like at least 4 years or something.

Edit: Stabler was 2nd Round pick and sat FIVE years.

As ive stated in other threads i have no problem if Ty is the 3 this year. He CAN be the 2 but let him battle it out with Stetson or Jimmy.

I'm pretty sure the Rams are betting that's not gonna happen, too. But if he's 43 still playing at an MVP level, that would be awesome for us.
