You lost me. Those visits aren't just for players expected to be 1st rounders.

Verse and McVay never had a conversation prior to the draft. That's the way they do things.

I'm not even sure how he would even have time to meet with every potential option unless they scheduled them in large bunches.
Verse doesn’t play quarterback!!! Come on man, you can’t think it’s the same thing. Theres no way.

Bo Nix played like 5 full seasons of college football.

Like 75% of the reason I’m out on Simpson is because of the horrendous track record of QBs with such limited playing time. Especially at his size.
Yes 5 full seasons and most thought he was a reach where they took him, but the Broncos hit on the pick. At least it appears that way right now. So if that continues nobody will give a shit that they took him earlier than others thought was appropriate.

This stuff is subjective even with teams. I'm sure some team boards had Simpson as a reach where we took him. Maybe even a lot of teams. But as long as we hit it doesn't matter.

I think Simpson has a good chance to be a QB2. So if he busts, it'll be that he's not a starter, and we'll know it was a reach in truth. But maybe he excels, so the only thing to do from here is root him on and hope he lives up to the Rams expectations.

Btw he gives me Bulger vibes. Who was another QB with great mechanics who struggled when protections broke down. And we got a lot out of Bulger, granted, but that type of QB is never what I prefer. That said I rooted hard for Bulger and will for Simpson as well.

Nothing specific just generalities about what he wants from Puka. That's what I'm saying he'll say things like this that some will label coach speak but as far as divulging personal details I'm sorry I disagree. This we see the rest we don't that I can ever recall.

Yeah maybe we are just talking past each other, OS.

Of course I'm not saying that McVay would ever "divulge personal details" that a player would prefer to remain private.

But yes, in my opinion, McVay will frequently share "coach speak and generalities" regarding personal conversations. As the clip you provided about McVay/Puka clearly shows.

So maybe we don't disagree, we're just using different words to characterize McVay's comments.

To me, McVay had a NOTICEABLE lack of "coach speak and generalities" in that he hardly had anything at all to say about Stafford's reaction.

Let's let it go, eh? You didn't notice anything different about McVay's demeanor in his post-draft press conference. Myself, Gary Klein and many ROD posters thought that McVay was more subdued than usual. Not a big deal regardless.

Sorry, but I do.

McVay has an entire staff and scouts to meet with these players. Even QBs.

Now if Simpson says he's never talked to Ragone, Kingsbury, & Scheelhaase then I'd be wary.

Does anyone honestly think Mike MacDonald or Kyle Shanahan saw the Rams pick tonight and thought “ahh fuck they got Ty Simpson. Dammit!”

Lmaoo look at JB and MJD hours before the draft. They are literally saying the obvious. “Drafting a rookie QB in round 1 makes no sense given the teams current time table. I’ll believe it when I see it”.

Now they are going to have to tow the company line and change their tune, but it’s good to know they think it’s just as stupid a pick as everyone else.

I was trying to buy in, and think of the positives. Until I saw the press conference. McVay looked so pissed, and it was awkward as hell. McVay even downplays his quarterback developing abilities on a question, basically saying he was around quarterbacks that were already great. Then I see this clip. Simpson, through tears of emotion says “let’s make history coach”. And McVay says “…..yeah…”. He might as well have said “yeah whatever bro”. McVay is not bought in AT ALL

We got the guy I expected.

I'm not super excited because I don't know that he has the potential to be a top 10 QB, but I am optimistic that McVay will mold him into a decent to good starting QB.

Basically, we got Ferg and Simpson for whoever was available at 26 last year.

The Rams don’t do them because they’ve drafted in the top 30 exactly twice in the last 9 years. Why would you have a top 30 visit when you don’t have a top 30 pick?

I’m just telling you, it’s extremely unusual for McVay and Simpson to have never had a conversation. Throw in McVay’s demeanor at the presser, and the fact that this player has a personal relationship with Snead….its pretty easy to see what happened.
Dude, most top 30 visits are not for #1 draft picks. Many are day 3 guys, where you may want to get to know a kid from a smaller school. Locally here in Philly, they mentioned their past draft picks who were top 30 visits. Many were later picks, like Jaylx Hunt, an Edge who was a converted safety from Houston Baptist.

...I've hated and felt this after the selections of Bradford, Goff, and now Simpson. :laugh1:
On the bright side, Goff helped us get Stafford, so if all Simpson becomes is a trade chip for Burrow in two years, it would have been worth it.

Thats exactly what I Was thinking. Survive until 2030 to at least to get burrow as a FA. He would be near Staffords age when was Traded! Problem is, does he Survive that Bungles team!

That track record matters if the kid is thrown to the wolves in year one. That's not happening here. He will have at least have one full year to learn and probably two years.

No the track record is the track record. It’s not like there’s this whole other group of 6’1 QBs with 15 collegiate starts that fucking crushed it once they sat behind a vet for a couple years. Those guys don’t exist either.
