I think of it more as trade bait for if/when burrow/Allen become available. A la another Stafford situation where the qb gave his all for the city, they can only trade him to his preferred destination. Imagine if Bengals or bills have a bad season. That Bengals staff is gone. That bills front office is gone. Allen's wife is Hollywood too one can hope
 
My initial take is that McVay was likely caught between the long-term needs of the Rams being pushed by Snead and short term “all in” position being pushed by Stafford. Probably led to some tense discussions between the 3 of them that wore his ass out a little bit. Maybe he was hoping another team would pick Simpson before the Rams or offer a trade package too good to pass up before the Rams were on the clock.
 
Lmao Ty Simpson said in one of his post draft interviews he’s never had a conversation with Sean McVay.

That tells you all you need to know, man. Like what are we doing here.

I'm sympathetic to your view but is it also possible that you just don't want to believe that your GOD KING MCVAY made a pick you disagree with vehemently.

I think Snead thinks McVay is elsewhere by 2029 and he’s trying to make the best long term decisions for the team.

Like 75% of the reason I’m out on Simpson is because of the horrendous track record of QBs with such limited playing time. Especially at his size.

I’ve been saying that. I’ve been shouting that from the roof tops.

Compare QBs coming into the league over the last several years. Look at the ones drafted off “potential” with limited playing experience vs the ones who played 40+ games in college. Trey Lance, Anthony Richardson, Mitch Trubisky vs Bo Nix, Brock Purdy, and Jayden Daniels.
 
Yeah so after doing other things for a couple hours...pick still makes no sense.

Have a superbowl team that needs bolstering and instead take a guy you hope doesnt need to.play this year.

And on top of that a player who likley wouldnt have been a.1st rounder in many years and took.him at 13...
