It would be nice if everyone rechecked their boards to help eliminate those "wow, you guys took all my picks and I'll have to think about this. I'll brb." If everyone is a little more proactive we might just finish the fourth round before I go to Jamaica mon and I'll set you up for a little 5th round action before I go. :cautious:

I think it would be even nicer if people made their picks in a timely manner when they're ONLINE. Instead some people view other threads, post comments elsewhere and leave the draft hanging. Just do a quick review, make your pick, and stop holding up the draft. Or my favorite, only logging in every 10-12 hours to check. Some picks fly by real quick. Some days we only have 4 picks made. Frustrating. I check every 5-10 minutes even at work, and I don't even get to participate. I know ppl have lives, but the draft is a three day thing and it's been like a week now and still in round two. If you know you can't be on, set yourself up with a queue and send the list to Alan so he can make the pick for you accordingly.

All of your suggestions would certainly speed things up @JackDRams . Maybe some of our mockers will read that and act upon your very good suggestions and observations.

Or not. I believe that's why the French invented the "C'est la vie" phrase. That and "ménage à trois" and "French kiss" are their only real contributions to the world at large.

Then again, what's up with the little accent marks above the é and à? Not to mention the one after the C. At least we know how to pronounce our words without cheating. :palm:

Here, here! There are several mockers who want this thing to move along at a consistent, steady pace. Before the next mock, we should discuss in detail ideas such as yours to keep it moving and keep it fun. A fast moving mock is always fun! There's no reason why we can't knock out a round a day (or 2 days) if we schedule it as such: Day 1 = Round 1, Day 2 = Round 2...

GM commitment is key; Active participation is mandatory - if you can't, no problem. We can find 32 GM's among our 2,447 members.

I agree, Having it move that quickly does mean that we would have to have built our entire 4 round board though, which seems like a big task for some couch GMs that don't actually get to spend much time on the couch. Perhaps we could do something like Day 1 = Round 1, then a day or two of intermission (giving people time to rebuild their next round draft board) and Day 4 = Round 2

You say this "We can find 32 GM's among our 2,447 members" @SierraRam but you might not be aware that of all the posters who wanted to participate, only @Memento didn't make the final cut. Although he was offered a spot. Perhaps if I threatened, err, promised to send those who don't want to participate in the next mock one of my famous (and soon to be legal again) fruitcakes?

Who's the first place you look for rankings? Tell me and I'll compare their rankings to NFL.com over the last few years and lets see which has the better accuracy rate. I think we'll find they're pretty much the same.

I haven't found your statement about them being incompetent to be true. Or should I say, I haven't found them to be any more incompetent than any other rating organization. What I like about them is that they set a numerical ranking. Whereas CBS, for example, merely ranks them in their perceived order at a position and predicts the round they should be taken.

For example, they list four OTs with Scherff ranked #1 followed by Collins, Peat and Flowers in that order projected to go in the 1st round. At OG they have Cann and Tomlinson rated #1 and #2 and projected to go in the second round. How much do they like Scherff better than they like Collins? Unknown.

Here's what CBS says about Scherff: "PLAYER COMPARISON: Zack Martin, Cowboys -- Scherff is athletic enough to remain outside at tackle but his build and physicality could be even more effective inside at guard".

So why not rate him compared to other OGs instead of other OTs? NFL.com lumps them all together as OL and compares their relative merits as a group. Using their their own criteria of course.

Here's what NFL.com says about Scherff: "Like former Hawkeye Riley Reiff, Scherff has measurables and traits to play tackle in the league but might be better suited to play guard."

I see no difference.

In any case though, I'm not taking anything they say as the truth, I'm merely looking at their relative rankings. Both in a particular year and compared to other years. I could have used other sites rankings but I've noticed through the years that they all pretty much have the same top 100 players with only minor deviations.

My own personal feeling on this subject is that you should stick with one organization or one evaluator and follow them every year. It's the only way I've found to rank the relative merits of the players in the draft as a whole and at particular positions when comparing one draft to another draft. It really doesn't matter which organization of individual evaluator you use because we're just talking about trends and relative evaluations here.

If you want accuracy you should just follow the opinions of ours own experts here at the ROD. (y)
I actually like nfl.com, their rankings are as good as any others and I really like the way the site and info is laid out, as you've said I've stuck with them the last few years for consistency...

With all of the OL prospects flying off the board, the Panthers will try to rebuild the area vacated by Greg Hardy.

The Panthers select:
DE Preston Smith Mississippi St.
I almost took him at the top of #2, am surprised he dropped that far!

If it helps, I've got my big board list and I'm crossing the guys off as they get drafted by everyone. I'm pretty much ready to go when my pick comes up (if I'm awake) ;)

If it looks like you might get to pick today and you want to hit the sack you can PM me with your top choices and I'll take care of it @shaunpinney .

Although I hit the sack about 2200 hours EST myself. That's like a week from now in England Standard Time isn't it?

Even so, I'll get it when I get up at about 0230 - 0330 hours.
