This is true dieter. They also know more than us. But what fans do have is a simplistic view that is largely determined by what happens on the field. And sometimes that is an advantage, i.e. not having to deal with the human side of things.

Sometimes the truth is simple. Like us fans.
Yup, the truth is simple. Sloman is our kicker because the "smarter than us" guys decided that

Got it through 4 games we know Sloman isn't good enough to be a kicker in the NFL. How could the Rams be so damned stupid to have trusted him with the job!

Ego, they drafted him. I suspect if he came as a free agent he'd be gone around now. If they wish to "develop" him, why not do it on the practice squad?

Got it. You have no idea why he won the job you just think it's because McVay is protecting Snead and Bonamego's ego. It couldn't possibly be like what McVay said that Sloman beat the other two guys out.

My favorite part of this entire thread is that nobody has remembered yet that Sloman was drafted after the two guys he beat out in camp were on the roster. There was no need to draft him but they actually liked what they saw in the guys tape.

That's a lot of writing for a guy who only wants to say Sloman wasnt better than Zuerlein as a rookie...

Well, you'd be wrong.... He's missed 2 this year alone, same as Sam... And an XP is from 33 yards, not under 30

1) I like to protect my boy. What Old School stated was completely wrong and I wanted to clear up that fact.

2) FGs not XPs

I already stated that he missed 2 XPs this year against Seattle which he has a mind fart against for some reason.

As to 33 yards vs 30, I had it stuck in my head that 30 was the extra point range. Oh well. I still think Zuerlein would have made them since he almost never misses anything under 35.

Other than extra points....
Look, I get it, you'll make every excuse you can for "Your Boy", its what fans do. What I dont understand is defending a former player at the expense of a current player. Alas, you can feel free to have last word on this as I will echo @OldSchool and stay out of this thread unless/until there is at least some new information to talk about

I wasn't doing it at the expense of the current player. That's what you don't get. I was defending my boy. That is all I was doing.

I only mentioned Sloman because Old School compared Sloman to Zuerlein stating Sloman was doing better than Zuerlein in his rookie year and that was simply not true. They are doing about the same except for XPs. And again I agree - comparing XPs in 2012 vs this year is an unfair comparison.

But to be specific now on Sloman, I don't want a place kicker who can't make XPs even if they are from 33. They should be automatic. Zuerlein made them automatic except for one in 2016 2017 and 2018 and we scored a lot of TDs in 2017 and 2018.

So the only put down I am doing on Sloman is that I want him to do much much better on XPs. That is all. He is doing fine on FGs and TBs. But since he is a rookie, I will give him 8 games to get better on XPs. If he still misses two extra points every 5 games after the first 8 games, I want to try a different place kicker - maybe Liram - I don't know. Call me a tough critic. But that is my major concern with Sloman at this point.

And that's all I have to say on this topic as well.

I wrote earlier that he has missed everything wide left by a pretty small margin.

Seriously, don't you think this is correctable?

Maybe - that is why I am personally giving him 3 more free games.

After 8 games, if he continues to miss XPs, well then you will see me complain more about him.

So far I am only concerned about his performance so far. I have not complained about his performance anywhere even in these posts.

If you think I have, you are reading way too much in between the lines.

I just asked a reasonable question.

So there is a chance he improves.

1) I know. But I think a few people have misinterpreted what I was saying about Zuerlein and comparing his rookie year to Slomans.

2) Of course. I have not given up on Sloman completely. Just concerned that his mechanics may not improve enough for him to be a viable kicker in the NFL. He seems to slip just enough on his kicks to miss two field goals and two XPs.

But there is definitely a chance he could improve his mechanics. I am just not thrilled with him yet.

Zuerlein, on the other hand, was someone I liked from the very get go. I like placekickers that can make field goals over 50 yards with a 60% accuracy rate.

We could use his roster spot for a linebacker who can tackle a running back near the line of scrimmage.

I think I would rather have any other starting kicker in the NFL at this point.
