It's not the misses that concern me. It's the low trajectory PLUS weak overall kick. The guy is mediocre at best in leg strength. I think they over-scouted him on his straight ball (they mentioned him kicking in poor weather conditions post-draft as part of their rationale in favoring him).

If they liked H10's demeanor and felt he was a fit in the locker room they'd be wise to bring him in IMO. This team is not so good that they can overcome a negative at kicker.

IMO Sloman was DOA upon the start of the season. This was game 6 and Sam has missed a kick in every game except 1. Any other position with that type of failure rate would get the player benched. His TC showed he had serious technique issues and apparently he's not able to correct them on his own. Let's be clear, the history of the NFL has shown that a rookie's collegiate record doesn't usually translate to the NFL. Now add in Sloman's clear problems in TC with a success percentage of about 53% and there is no way he should have been declared the winner of the so-called kicking competition. That foolishness is hurting this team. I'm sure it influenced McVay's decision not to go for the FG when they started their comeback in the second quarter. Sloman's history of missing extra points can't be minimized no matter how you try.

He needs to be released and if they want re-signed to the PS to try again next year. Austin MacGinnis who matched Lirim in effeciency is still a FA and should be signed tomorrow. If this team is to truly contend they need a better kicker. Austin's range is about 55 yds, which is plenty.

A blocked FG recovered behind the LOS is like a fumble. A blocked FG recovered by the defense can be advanced like a fumble, but the kicking teams can only recover it in that circumstance to prevent a defensive return. That is why Sloman's low blocked kicks are troubling. It could end up being like a returned TD by the defense or at least providing them with good field position. Three or four of his kicks have been exceptionally low with 2 being blocked on XP tries. If that was a FG try it could mean disaster. He's a disaster waiting to happen IMO.

Tried to be patient with Sloman, but ready for MacGinnis at this point.

Just don’t have much faith anymore in Sloman any time he lines up to kick.

Kickers are weird and unpredictable... who knew Sam Ficken could be terrible while with us, but then hit 100% so far in 2020?

So yeah, maybe Sloman might turn it around someday, but I’ve lost patience for waiting.

The fact that he had the lowest percentage of the 3 kickers in TC is real concerning now, given how he’s got 6 misses in 6 games. That story of how “Sloman really came on in the last week of camp” always sounded like a concerning reason for him to win the job.

I’ll always trust McVay... so I’m thinkin’ it must’ve been Bonamego who was banging the table for Sloman

I loved the kid, but it's time to cut bait with Sam Lowman....Ball comes out too low and it seems to be an issue, of course, he rebounded to make a 42 yarder and extra point, but he has not had a clean game yet and IMO, I would make a change.

He kicks way too low. That is his issue.

I would much rather have Liram or Austin at this point.

Plus both have a much stronger leg than Sloman.

If this dude had made a Fisher type team he would have disintegrated by now under the pressure. But the pressure moments are coming in the playoffs. McVay can't protect him from them.

IMO they dicked the dog on this whole thing. Kept a guy whose kicks are low trajectory without anticipating what will his range be when he corrects. And the longer they wait to admit they fucked up the harder the replacement will be.

Bonamego is almost certainly behind this shit. This is a head coach moment for McVay IMO even if it means you damage that relationship. Otherwise you are allowing a positional coach to threaten your playoff run with a questionable kicker.

Gonna call this right now btw: Bonamego will be fired after the season. If he gets that far.

IMO Sloman is Bona's boy. They probably drafted him due to Bona's scouting and working with him pre-draft. He probably won "the competition" because of Bona sticking to his guns (or if you're so inclined feel free to believe the rumors that on all the workouts without press it just so happend that this guy killed it).

Our teams are among the worst in the league. We are 30th in special teams DVoA (we were 17th last season). Bonamego was a poor hire IMO.
