One thing I do know is I had a ball in Seattle!

An L.A. native, could Richardson be on the Rams radar if Watkins’ price is too high?

I would be ok with Richardson or Marquise Lee. While I still prefer Watkins in horns, I don’t want the Rams to not be able to sign other more impactful current or future FAs because Watkins’ asking price is too much.

I feel the same way.

@jrry32 strikes again.

I think he makes sense. We'll see if the Rams are interested. He seems like he could be a Robert Woods type signing to me. I was always impressed with his skill-set in Seattle when he was healthy. He was a real nuisance on vertical routes and routes that played off of vertical routes. He'd be a reasonably priced player who could step into Sammy's role. With Woods and Kupp stepping up, we don't need a Julio Jones. We just need a guy who can keep the defense honest on deep routes. I think Richardson can be more than that, though. My only big concern with him is his injury history. But I like Reynolds and Thomas, who are the depth behind him.

This was my biggest problem with bringing Watkins in. He’s a guy you need to target 9-10 times per game to really make him effective. And to keep him interested. McVay likes to spread the ball out so much this offense doesn’t need an elite receiver(which you stated). I wouldn’t mind this move at all. Guy seems like a hard worker.

Frankly, if Watkins leaves I’m ok with giving Josh Reynolds a chance at this point. He showed flashes, second year is always much better for most WRs. He’s certainly got the speed and length to take the top off the defense even if that’s his only job to free up Woods and Kupp.

Plus, he’s cheaper and allows us to stack the D.

I'd just as soon roll with Reynolds. Richardson has had too many injuries. Besides he'll still have some of that Seattle fish market stink on him.

I personally would rather give our young guys a shot. Why pay a free agent that might be marginally better than your in house options.

I want Watkins back, badly. But if for some reason that can't happen, why get a guy like Richardson when Josh Reynolds is already here? Before last season, I watched a lot of his college tape and I predictably went overboard about what he could do this past season. We didn't see that player, but I think we will if he's given the chance.

The thought of losing Watkins bothers me unless we add another proven guy.

I think Sammy is important to retain. But, this is a plan B to consider.

I too want Watkins on this team but not for $12M plus a year and I'm afraid that is what he'll be seeking. If we don't sign him, a FA will be brought in and I wouldn't rule out a draft pick on a WR. In this scenario, I would expect Reynolds to get a chance to be the guy for starters. I just hope he is in the weight room right now.

Well, if you get Watkins... great. If you get Marquis Lee, you also get a 3rd round comp pick.

So you can look at it that way. Some don't want to lose Watkins since they traded for him, but you can also look at it as they will spend x amount of money on a WR, in one scenario you also get a 3rd rounder back. So you can actually help lesson the blow of trading that original pick if you sign another WR or for that matter use the cap dollars for another position and maybe then use the draft for a WR.

Regardless, they have resources to use to address WR, cap dollars or draft. By letting Watkins go actually returns another resource, a 3rd round pick, to address another need next year.

If we lose Watkins I wouldn't want to downgrade the comp pick by spending alot on a WR. Losing a second for 1 year of play stings and getting a comp third in 2019 lessens the blow.

I would go after John Brown or Taylor Gabriel if we lose Watkins. They are second wave of FA guys that won't cost a lot, have situational deep threat speed that allows Reynolds to focus on taking over Sammy's redzone work and in breaking routes, and can also replace some of the gadget stuff you do with Tavon.

True, if you spend same amount you lose the pick so you would have to find a role player to fill his role, like a,speedy draft pick, or an existing player like Reynolds.... and then you use his cap dollars to re-sign NRC or Donald, and or a couple lower level UFA's to fill holes at LB etc..

Good idea if they can stay healthy. Rams can use the speed. Hard to count Thomas out battling Reynolds. It's possible Reynolds and Thomas take over for Watkins. Then the Rams can still use a change of pace back that can catch the ball and run gadget plays.
