Another frustrating thing about the Arizona performance by our Defense is that it's not the first time most our defense has played them, and they still couldn't stop them!

I remember back in 2018, that Chicago game was the turning point. Then we lost to Philly the next week and it became, "that Detroit game showed teams how to beat the Rams". But we were lucky enough to have Arizona and SF the last two weeks of the regular season, then an average Dallas team in the first round, visually challenged officials in the CCG and then finally, Belichick and Brady in the SB. We were never as good as our record!!!! Now we're 3-1, second in the division (for now) with a huge game in Seattle Thursday. I'll tell you, a loss and we're done!!! A win and we're back on track!! :explode1:

And I will argue all day that the PI call was a make over call for missing the Goff face mask on the Ram drive right before the NO drive.

Supposedly if the Rams lost to the Cardinals during the McVay era in the forest, did it happen? *flexes

It was also around the time we basically lost Gurley. I think it might have been ok if we just lost Kupp, but not both.

I think two things are true...

The game was SOMEWHAT of an aberration...also I think the defense is a lot shittier than we expected it to be...Teams have been moving the ball against us with relative ease and we've been suspectible to big plays...the very thing our D is supposed to stop...
But again, I can't tell if it's scheme or ineptitude.

What defense is Morris calling?

It almost looks like they play prevent defense all the time and never press.

Defense is definitely not my area of expertise so I'm seriously asking for answers here.

I haven't seen much, but been listening to the games and it does, it seems like it's straight prevent every dam play.

I suppose if we were used to getting beat down every week it would be business as usual. But this is the McVay era. A loss like that causes people to panic. We dissect every play and ask what went wrong? Is it a harbinger of things to come? Is there now another blue print?

The fact is, we got beat by a good team. We're also a good team. Good teams do get beat by other good teams. They just have to move on and focus on the next game. The only way they make this loss worse than it is would be if they let it affect them.

I'm sure they understand these games happen in the NFL. Every player in the league is in an elite category. They are among the best in the world. The margin of talent from the worst team to the best team is razor thin. You have to be ready each and every game. Sometimes that other team was more ready. Simple as that.

While I think there are a lot of good points that have been made on this thread, there is really only one answer...

Ask me on Friday.

If we bounce back and beat the Seahawks in their house, I will have no problem deeming last Sunday a momentary lapse or an aberration.

If we continue to slide...

I hope we win Thursday. If we don't, I'm still not in panic mode. (Unless we are completely blown out).

This division is T-O-U-G-H, and the teams will be picking each other off, hopefully we at least finish 3-3.

It's the games against the rest of league that are going to make or break us. So far, we're pretty good against the rest of the NFL...

There is some science behind it, funny enough, there's been a number of studies regarding it, especially among athletes since they tend to be significantly more superstitious than the average person. It's about getting in a comfortable frame of mind.

He's calling the same scheme. Rams are still drawing from Staley's playbook. Maybe some keys are different or simplified by Morris and there's gonna be a completely different approach in how the scheme is used in each situation but he's pulling from the same base group of plays.

I'm not gonna count snaps or anything here (like for example trying to figure out how often he calls cover two) and tbh I don't really care what he calls either as long as it's effective. It's just kind of fuckin funny that we end up in this very obvious moment in time where the new hire who didn't have any real seasoning in a Cover 4/6 type approach is running the show and fucking it up while he learns on the job.

The best option is that he starts to get a feel for the calls. Because that's a huge part of it. But at this point where we are right now was predictable and McVay should have seen this coming. He probably did too. But he likely figured his friend will get it down and his offense could carry the day. Either way it's on him and if Morris doesn't improve then it's gonna be McVay's fault for hiring a guy to run a defense he didn't know.

Football is a game of emotion. We came off an emotional win in Prime Time and have a big game against the Seahawks on Thursday. We were probably looking ahead to that game. We had an emotional let down.

If we don't play well on Thursday I might begin to be concerned. Cardinals will probably lose next week at home vs. 49ers.

Good teams after bad games usually bounce back strong. I would expect them to be pretty well buttoned up and playing well.

Unless of course what we fear about the D is true...

That's the kind of thing that tells you it's not the players themselves, but the way the coaches are using them. Not to defend Long's getting beat or Rapp's known weaknesses in deep coverage ... but if they were correctly used by the coaches, they probably wouldn't be asked to do those things.

I think it’s pretty obvious this game vs the cards was very important to them. We got the very best they had to offer. It’s like us finally beating the niners in ’99. I don’t think we were ready to play anyone. Still I think it’s a good thing to learn from our losses. In the end steel sharpens steel and we may become a better team from this loss.
