Just putting out there what Dan, who is an ex-teammate and close friend of Stafford said.
There's nothing "100%" about this, still think there's at least a 50% chance Staff comes back for '26. Make of this what you will.

I think he has better chance of retiring if the Rams do win the super bowl He goes out a champ.

IF the Rams get close or but fail he might want to give it one last shot.

Also, any new health issues will influence his decision.

I would wager most of us think it is. Might wish otherwise but reality comes calling and hell hang it up.

I’m 63 and contemplating retirement. If my health turns south or my frustration with my job hits a certain level and I’m just hating it I’m gonna retire very soon. However, if my health remains stable and I can balance my job with family/ social life and not hate every day at work I may hang on for another couple years. And finally if my wife told me it’s time to retire I’ll be putting in my two months notice. That’s what Stafford is doing. One year at a time.

Orlovsky may be right, duh, but it doesn't change the fact that he a fucking tool along with all the other tools and fools at ESPN. He always seems like he's about to cry if he can't convince someone of his point. I wish he, Greenberg, SAS, Bart Scott, Ryan Clark and especially Mike Tannebaum would all be fucking fired. They ruined the morning sports programming. They're ain't shit to watch anymore, NFL Network's conversion to ESPN political bias has already begun. Oh, I really don't like Dan Orlovsky by the way.

Another news flash that really isn't a news flash and something many here have already been worrying about.

It's obvious as fuck tbh. I mean let's connect the dots:

:helmet: Old QB in that window now (will be 38 years old next Feb).

:helmet: Hard miles with a lot of injuries and recently a back issue that held him out of camp.

:helmet: Two consecutive years of unhappiness about his contract, to include needing to clear the room with him and McVay to get it done this year.

:helmet: Uncertainty at LT, which if doesn't go our way could significantly increase hits he takes in the pocket.

:helmet: Rams have two first round picks in what should be a deep QB draft in 2026.

:helmet: This year's team is fully primed for a deep playoff run, with some concerns at LT (for me at least) and Corner. But all teams have some concerns so health will dictate, meaning there's a chance Stafford could go out on top if the chips fall our way.

I retired at 61. Thought about staying longer at work. But when my older brother died of cancer and never got to enjoy retirement I decided heck with it. I'm set up enough to retire and I did it. I wanted it to be on my terms. I did not want to wait till my health forced it. I imagine Stafford feels the same way. He wants it on his terms.

Orlovsky may be overly emotional on his takes. But his takes are pretty in depth and well thought out. As such, I do not put him in the crowded “tool” pool of analysts.

The fucker also thought Shadeur was a 1st rounder, was way underdrafted and they all think he still deserves a roster spot on the teams 53. All the talking heads these days are morons.
