Any given Sunday, and... when Fitzpatrick was playing the Dolphins proved they can win games. They’re 3-3 and in 2nd place inside their division.

So... I’d rather play Tua.

Why?

We won’t let the Dolphins decide how this goes... we’re coming prepared to fuck with the rookie.

That’s the primary goal of my game plan, anyway,... (y)

If both teams play at their best we should win. We need to take the momentum gained from our win over the Bears and start strong.

I think this will be a very close game. It is a must win for us as our schedule is tough.

I hate playing teams who have 2 weeks prep vs us when we only have 5-6 days time for them. That being said, I still think Tua's at a big disadvantage. Adjusting to game speed is gonna be rough for him. I see sack potential, and more than a handful, which we saw happen to a young Murray when he faced our D.

The best offensive weapon the Fins have is their kicker who is 100% from all distances and 2 of 2 50+ yds. Myles Gaskin is their RB and he's a fast tough RB who has good hands. Staley needs to dial up a pressure defense not giving the rookie easy short passes. The same basic game plan as in Chicago. They are mediocre on both sides of the ball with Ogbah being their main defensive weapon. The Dolphins are nowhere near the threat level of the Bears defensively and the Ram offense should be able to ring up close to 30 on them if they play a clean game. Play a similar gameplan as Monday night and the D should be able to stop the Fin's offense.

The only way the Rams lose this game is to give it away. They should go into the bye at 6-2. After the bye the first 4 games will show how good or not this team is, Hawks, Bucs, Niners & Cards. The bottom line is that the Rams control their own destiny to finish the season.

So no tape on Tua. maybe McVay should give Billecheat a call. I'm sure he paid the Dolphins towel guy to tape a practice of Tua. He has to play them twice.

I hate that stat... defense ranking based in yards allowed. Ya get no points for yards, just points scored and that’s how a D should be graded.

I find it incredulous that a team could give up ZERO points a game, but 500 yards a game and be ranked last as a D.

Just dumb imho

Much rather play the rookie QB, their offense was doing well without him.

And we should be able to score on this team.

We should be able to win, if we play HARD, for 60 minutes.

I dont watch a lot of college ball, but feel its safe to assume Tua is a more athletic QB than Fitzmagic. And as such the decision to start Tua was made with the emphasis on improving the run game. I would expect to see some read option, bootlegs and possibly some QB draws to help supplement the run game and slow the pass rush. I dont think it will help much this week as I see our D coming in with the mindset to shut down the rookie and make Flores second guess starting the rookie this week.

Tua's a left-handed thrower so his blindside will be on the right, which is generally the weakest of the two OTs. It's also the side that Floyd and to a lesser extent AD play. I wonder is AD will play the 5T on the right, moving Floyd to the left side. If Robinson plays that will make a huge difference with Fox and Gaines playing 3 T. Tua isn't a running QB but he's mobile enough to pick up an occasional 1st down on a scramble and to extend plays. Running a 4.9 means both Floyd and AD can run Tua down as well as any of the LBs. He's a pocket passer who's strength is the short to mid-range passing game. He's got decent deep accuracy but that's assuming he has the time to make his reads.

They have two better than average CBs but considering how deep the Ram's receiving corps is they might see a fair amount of zone. They've had issues consistently stopping the run, so if McVay sticks to the run the yards will be there. Take away the Fins run game and force the rookie to beat them. Take away his quick reads and he will force the ball meaning the INT's could be there. Get out in front early and the Rams can take control of this game.

Myles Gaskin is their RB and he's a fast tough RB who has good hands.
Was just looking at him on FO. Haven't watched any of their games this year btw.

Gaskin does have great hands, 93% catch rate from the backfield as well as a very respectable ranking in pass game explosiveness (DVoA second chart below). And his success rate (first one is the run chart) is one of the best in the league he's ranked just behind Hendy.

His weakness seems to be explosive plays on handoffs. Bottom third of the league there. Looks like the Dolphins OL isn't very good tbh.

Miami basically has one "good run side" of the OL, that being the left side at least according to FO. And always gotta take this stuff with a grain of salt since I admittedly don't know much about the Dolphins, but Tua being a lefty seems to fit that nicely with that left side now being strong. Unless they flip Davenport to cover his blindside.

I think a lot has to do with the Fin o-line. Gaskin can be streaky in games where he gains nothing then explodes for a long run. He's dangerous on pitches to get him to the edge and on swings in the flats. That is the part where this defense can be a bit exposed. It's a must IMO for the Rams to set a hard edge because he's not a big back, but a very elusive, speedrunner on the perimeter. IMO he's their run game.

Tua is raw in some aspects of his game. He's good if he has his first two reads, beyond that his penchant is to break contain to extend and he has the vision to see dropped coverages. That IMO is probably the book on him at this point. With 4.9 speed he isn't a huge threat as a runner. So if the Rams take away his first two reads, and maintain contain he's toast. If given the opportunity he will take it deep if given time to open up the short and mid-range passing game.

IMO the Dolphins will run enough to keep a defense honest but they will pass to win and a short to mid-range pass attack is their staple.

First Look: Rams travel to Dolphins in Week 8 before Week 9 bye

The Rams (5-2) travel to face the Miami Dolphins (3-3) this Sunday in Week 8, looking to build on their big win over the Bears on Monday Night Football and carry momentum into their Week 9 bye. Kickoff from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, is scheduled for 10 a.m. pacific time on FOX.

In advance of the contest, here is your first look at Rams-Dolphins on Nov. 1, including notable Dolphins additions, some of Miami's top statistical performers in Week 6 and key storylines:

Notable Dolphins additions
  • Drafted University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick in this year's draft. Though rookie classmates selected in the first round like Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert made their debuts quickly, Tagovailoa had to patiently wait while the Dolphins cautiously monitored his recovery from a season-ending hip injury last November. He finally got his first NFL snaps with 2 minutes remaining in the Dolphins' Week 6 game against the Jets and was named the starter over veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick the next day.
  • Signed former Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones to a five-year deal in March. In 2019, Pro Football Focus evaluated him as the 11th-highest graded player at his position (minimum 600 snaps). He also had the top tackling grade of any cornerback last season and owned the 12th-best coverage grade. He missed two games due to a groin injury sustained against the Bills in Week 2 and has five combined tackles and one pass breakup so far this season.
Top performers in Week 6 (Dolphins had a Week 7 bye)

Fitzpatrick completed 18 of 27 pass attempts for 191 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in the Dolphins' 24-0 win over the Jets. Tagovailoa was 2 for 2 for nine yards in limited action.

RB Myles Gaskin led Miami's backfield with a game-high 19 carries for 91 yards, adding four receptions for 35 yards.

TE Adam Shaheen had a team-high 51 yards on three receptions, plus one touchdown. WR Preston Williams (two catches for 18 yards) and tight end Durham Smythe (one catch for four yards) caught Fitzpatrick's other touchdown passes.

S Eric Rowe led the Dolphins defense with nine combined tackles, and CB Xavien Howard chipped in an interception.

On special teams, kicker Jason Sanders made his lone field goal attempt (24 yards) and all three of his extra point attempts.

Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams

After getting his feet wet against the Jets, it's now full-time Tua Time in Miami. And while one would think going against a rookie making his first career start – and with limited NFL film – would make it difficult for an opposing defense to prepare for him, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley noted it will still be Dolphins offensive coordinator Chan Gailey's offense and "that it's not like they're just going to create a new offense in a week for (Tagovailoa). He fits the style of play that they want."

Additionally, even though Tagovailoa has limited NFL film, Staley still feels he has a good grasp of his talent because of draft preparation. Yes, Staley studies defensive players, but those evaluations naturally make him and other coaches aware of players who excel on the other side of the ball as well.

"When we're evaluating all these defensive players in the draft, the SEC is a good of a conference as there is in college football, I think you become aware of some of the offensive players in the draft," Staley said, pointing to Rams rookie wide receiver Van Jefferson as an example. "You're watching all these SEC secondary players and then your eyes kind of gravitate towards who is a really good player on offense."

Still, there will undoubtedly be differences in what Tagovailoa is comfortable with versus what veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick – Miami's starter in its first six games – was comfortable with in Gailey's system. The Rams will have to be prepared for how that influences the Dolphins offense and adjust accordingly.

At least he waited until the mid 3rd qtr. Spags and fisher would do that after the 1st qtr if they had the lead.

Some of the throws Goff made at the end of the first half may have influenced his decision to go conservative so early

Rams are currently third in their division. Each game is critical to keep up with the pack. No way they look past any team at this point.

Yep that's why I hope that phantom PI call at the end of the Bills game doesn't come back to haunt us
