So, I'm watching games yesterday and I see holding penalties on ticky tack stuff but on the overturned sack by Donald, the lineman is behind AD with a chokehold...no call. I see Rochelle making legal contact within 5 yards and gets called for holding yet, though I'm glad the Seahawks beat the Niners, a Hawk DB CLEARLY interferes incessantly in the end zone and doesn't draw a flag.

I swear, there is no rhyme or reason to how teams can get a baseline as to what is legal and what is not. Referees are the one inconsistent factor that ruins my ability to enjoy watching a game in the NFL.

They're bad almost entirely across the board and the worst part as you mention is they're inconsistent. It's one thing for us to not like rules the league and the players association implement, it's a whole different ball game when the rules aren't enforced equally by all crews. That's my biggest complaint even within one crew like you also said. Stuff yesterday was called holding on us but they could literally call holding on the guy blocking AD at least 75% of the time.

I'm not sure if that is the same one I saw, it sure sounds like it, but yeah....Full choke hold and Donald is being bent backwards......Ref is right there and nothing.

Did you see the not called PI right at the end of the Washington - Las Vegas game? The co-commentator (Greg Olsen I think) said he liked the no call but I wasn't so sure. I mean surely you can’t grab the blokes shirt before the ball has got there?

I was at an adult birthday party Sunday and a friend of mine who doesn't watch sports asked if what he saw at the end of the 49ers vs Seahawks game was illegal.........Seahawk DB was tangled up with a 49er receiver in the end zone.

I tried to explain that it's an ok call if it was consistent across all games, but that it depends on which Ref you have in the game.......the look on his face was priceless.

I’ll keep saying this and wish someone in the league would bring it up. The offensive tackles putting their arms around pass rushers necks needs to be illegal. It nearly ruined Robert Quinn’s career it’s neck injury. If player safety is what they want then this should be high on their list.

It’s a hold by every definition of what holding is yet they continue to allow it.

The refs were pretty bad yesterday. Even Ramsey’s taunting call was weak. It seemed like they were trying to keep the game close, until they knew that they couldn’t. Then the lousy calls didn’t seem to be made.

I get that refs are going to see things differently. What I dont like is that they arent even consistent with their own calls. Its one thing for ref A to call the game differently than ref B, I get it. But when ref A calls a ticky tacky holding on 1 play then lets an OL wrap his arm around another players neck and doesnt call it, that is what causes all the frustration with the refs inconsistencies. Players can adjust when they know ref A calls this but ref B lets this go. But there is no way to adjust accordingly when the same ref calls penalties differently throughout the same game.

taunting calls have often been horrible...

holding is a difficult one however... maybe if they made it a 5 yard penalty instead of a 10 - maybe it would get consistently called more.

the way it its now... its such a severe penalty and gets called randomly.

I've given up trying to understand wtf is going on half the time with calls being made or not made. Seems to get worse every year. The league thrives on parity and there's nothing that can convince me they don't urge refs to let things go unless it helps keep some parity. Maybe I'm just getting bitter as I age but it's gotten out of hand.

One of my Raider fan friends said the same thing. I told him it was not PI. Here's what the rule states:

His jersey was grabbed before contact, they ran further and then the receiver tries to catch an underthrown pass with his helmet. The receiver was not hindered from catching the ball.

If the receiver gets a hand on the ball, or the ball is thrown 2-5 yards past him, he is hindered from making the reception. That's PI. Great no-call by the refs.

I hate to play the role of conspiracy theorist, but, it does give ownership a means to influence the storyline. The fun part is, the football is an odd shape and takes funny bounces, and players are trying their hardest to win and excel at this game. So things don't always go with the NFL narrative.

So they just make a new one and move on. Sort of the production team on a reality show. They have an outline and adjust when required. The ambiguity the refs provide gives them a tool, that is all...

It feels as though the zebras had a meeting where they discussed being less "letter of the law" and more judgment based. Last years pass interfere against Buffalo that cost us a win is now being committed on a regular basis without a flag.
I haven't seen a late hit out of bounds in I can't remember. Mahomes got called for lifting his hands pre snap? It feels like they have given more freedom of interpretation of what effect the infraction may have had on the play.

Did anyone see the jags defensive player rip whitworths helmet right off because he was pissed and the refs just let it happen right in front of them?
Seems like the refs have blinders on when it comes to some things. And it's annoying AF

I expected to see at least off setting penalties on that play as it appeared there was a little extra curricular activity after the play. Then I see a Rams helmet being tossed from the pile as Whit stands up helmetless. The fact they could miss a helmet without an attached player or Big Whits helmetless head is unbelievable.

they do come close to me not watching. I don't watch NBA because of the BS. I mean really, you only get the call cause your a name player? The offensive player initiates contact, but it's a foul on the defender? Sorry, that is bull. can't watch.

I saw them call that play holding in games this year. I commented on it at the time because I wasn't sure it was concidered holding before that, But it is never called when our best pass rushers are getting it done to them.

No problem. I know it's not what everyone wants to hear, but it's what the rule states.

The chokeholds on Donald and the holding calls when receivers barrel right into our corners are another story.

That was exactly my thoughts. It happened right in front of the official and he just waved his arms running to the pile of players. Then we get a ticky tack call on Ramsey for looking at a dude? loooooooooooool. The NFL is silly at times, it really reminds of when government gets involved in personal business. It usually just fucks things up.
