Defense was impressive holding the Steelers to 4.5 ypp even with the 2 20+ runs and the one big pass to Brown that we blew plus Tree's horrible pass coverage on Bell for a 20 yarder. The defense, though it can frustrate us at times is fine. I was impressed when I looked at those numbers. Ben in a whole game threw last week to just Brown for more yards than he totaled today in what 3 quarters?

-Gurley Debut

-Tavon Austin is a nightmare for any defense

-Kenny Britt caught everything

-JL new Rams tackling leader

-McSafeties played well, McDonald was hitting hard and McCloud was reading their offense well

-Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn had their sacks

-Lamarcus Joyner has been playing good so far.

Our D was stout today after the 1st qtr.

The coaching staff made adjustments *before* halftime.

Only a couple of missed opportunities stood in the way of a win this week.

We're gonna punch the cards in the dick!

I just wanted to say that I was so impressed with the defense. Yes--they did have a shaky start but unlike the Washington game, they adjusted and did a great job against probably the best offense in football or at least top 3 for sure. It's a shame that effort was wasted but they served notice. It's a battle to play them. I think the Washington game was an aberration. I think that what we saw today was truer to what this defense is but they can even be better. Gotta hang onto the interceptions.

What may have not dawned on some of you is that the mods also get ticked off after a loss and we have to greatly restrain ourselves not to ban people left and right.
Shit boss, i'll do it for ya.

Cards already up on SF 14-0 just 3 minutes into the game. Our D can handle them but we're gonna need an offense.

To the point of your thread, our defense was very very strong today vs the #1 offense in the NFL.

Two pick sixes. Krappy sucks, we knew that.

Defense played well after struggling in the first quarter. Austin and Britt played well. Kendricks can get separation.(check the vent thread for the other half of the formula) Our OL can actually pass block well.(except when they fail to recognize the blitz) Foles is effective when he's not throwing deep.

His deep ball will usually be a go up and get it ball. I have to believe he just didn't see that safety.

Uh, 5 sacks? Britt had over 100 yards? Gurley didn't get hurt? Their was a lot of good in this game. I think unrealistic expectations are driving the fans nuts.
While I agree there was more good than just Donald, fans' expectations are not unrealistic. It's the fourth year after having a ton of high picks and spending lots of FA money. We should have an offense that can score much more at this point.

To keep with the anti-vent theme, I'll say I was pleased with Donald, Britt, Mason, and Ogletree specifically. I thought the O-line was better at pass blocking this week. I thought the D righted the ship about half way through, too.

In a nut shell.

Might be time to shake things up personnel-wise, but I seriously doubt that happens.
A tight end who could catch the ball would be monumental. Tavon continues to impress. The OL continues to gain experience, and I saw them battling some very tough, 8 and 9 man fronts. I wouldn't put this on them. Britt was very good, up until the last, very important play. Givens had a great run, on the reverse. Foles played better.

Defensively, Donald is such a stud, McLeod had a bounce back game. Jenkins, finally....didn't get killed on a double move! Joyner was hitting some people out there, too bad on the PI call. Barron played well, didn't deserve the PI call, which extended Pitts drive. Ogletree had more ups than downs, and had a couple great sacks.

Britt really impressed me. I've been hard on the guy and while I still am not sure he's long term starter quality player for a playoff-level team he is a very good possession WR and I'll take that with this bunch.

Britt has really been a bright spot. I have to believe Quick will make that passing O very good. i really want more Bailey.

Austin looked really good. And that end around by Givens was a thing of beauty.

Austin is going to be a star if this O gets it together. I'm stumped as to why a guy with his stats isn't handed the ball all day though.

OL had some good run blocks on early run downs. Not enough but some and that's a change.

I think they again looked better. Every week so far to my eye.

Lastly I think the play design had some bright spots too believe it or not. Lots of creative countering and movement but just too many execution problems.

Design? Yes. I'm not wild about some of the calls though.

I'm with you on the out of patience front but the reality front already told us this would be a bumpy start.

Quite honestly, this could easily have been a Rams win with just a lucky bounce or two. Joyner drops the easy INT. Dropped passes by the TEs. TA hops that one defender on the punt return instead of stepping out. Rams are so close. I am driving the Rams will be great after they bye bandwagon and I'm not slowing down!

Sacks were good. Our DL is a positive, that goes with Donald. Britt was good but our offense still sucks. Gurley not getting hurt isn't much of a positive, I would hope he'd be fine.

But that's for the other thread.
