Dolphins hire Dowell Loggains as offensive coordinator
Posted by Mike Florio on January 3, 2018

The Dolphins had a disappointing season. They’re doing what they can to avoid another one.

Per multiple reports, Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has joined the Dolphins in that same position. Former Miami offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen is expected to stay with the organization, in a different role.

Loggains joined the Bears in 2015, working that year with Gase, who was the offensive coordinator. Loggains became the coordinator in Chicago after Bears got the head-coaching job in Miami.

Per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Gase will continue to call the plays.

Christensen, who turns 62 this month, arrived in Miami from Indianapolis when Gase got the job.

The Dolphins hope to bounce back this year with the return of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who missed all of the season due to a knee injury.

Nice move by Gase to improve his support for gameplanning. But keeping his hope in Tannehill is nuts. Gotta think the Dolphins look hard at a QB if one they like crosses their draft position.

Raiders to (re)introduce Gruden on Tuesday
Posted by Mike Florio on January 5, 2018

Well there’s a friggin’ surprise.

Six days after he was first linked to a job that was not yet vacant, Jon Gruden is the new coach of the Raiders.

Per multiple reports, the Raiders will (re)introduce Gruden at a Tuesday press conference as the team’s next head coach.

As noted last night, the timeline and circumstances strongly suggest that the Raiders had an agreement in principle with Gruden before firing Jack Del Rio. NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart was asked during a Friday media briefing whether it’s permissible for a team to reach an agreement with a new coach before firing an old one; Lockhart didn’t have an answer, but he promised to provide one.

Regardless, the Raiders are providing the Raiders fans with a new coach, and the NFL with a lot more intrigue.

Raiders signing Jon Gruden to 10-year deal
Posted by Josh Alper on January 5, 2018

The Raiders are set to announce the start of Jon Gruden’s second stint as their head coach on Tuesday and it looks like Gruden will be sticking around a while.

According to multiple reports, Gruden will sign a 10-year deal with the team. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that prospective offensive coordinator Greg Olson, defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia will receive four-year deals.

Earlier this week, Gruden denied reports that he’d get an ownership stake in the Raiders as part of the deal. It doesn’t appear he’ll be hurting for cash, though. Those same reports peg the total value of his contract with the team at around $100 million.

That’s a lot of time and money for the Raiders to be on the hook for if things don’t go as hoped once Gruden officially returns to the organization, which makes this a gamble worthy of the Raiders’ future home.

Sources: Darrell Bevell fired as Seahawks offensive coordinator after seven seasons
Posted by Curtis Crabtree on January 10, 2018

The Seattle Seahawks have parted ways with offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell after seven seasons, sources tell PFT.

Bevell was told of the decision Tuesday night according to a source informed of the decision. The Seahawks missed the playoffs for the first time since Bevell’s first year in Seattle in 2011.

Despite Russell Wilson leading the league in touchdown passes, Seattle’s offense struggled to find consistency all season. Wilson was the team’s leading rusher as Seattle’s structured rushing attack was ineffective for most of the season. The Seahawks ranked 23rd in rushing overall, but 586 of their 1,629 rushing yards came from Wilson. Over 400 of those yards by Wilson came on scrambles.

The Seahawks had some of their most offensively prolific seasons in franchise history under Bevell. They led the league in rushing in 2014 and were in the top five in rushing offense in four of Bevell’s seven seasons in Seattle.

However, the rushing offense fell apart in 2017 and the final play of Super Bowl XLIX cast a large shadow on Bevell as well, despite head coach Pete Carroll saying repeatedly the decision to throw from the 1-yard line was his call.

It will be the first coordinator change of Seattle’s own doing since Jeremy Bates was fired as offensive coordinator after one season with Carroll in 2010. Bevell replaced Bates in the job for the 2011 season. Dan Quinn and Gus Bradley both left their defensive coordinator positions with Seattle to take head coaching jobs with Atlanta and Jacksonville, respectively.

Interesting that they finally fired Darrell now. Have to think Pete is lookin around the NFC West with some concern now eh?

He has to nail the hire of OC. If he does, they'll be right back in it and next year this division will be back to the nastiness of yesteryears.

Dang't this is the thread I was trying to find when I made the Nagy thread. I searched for it too but apparently I suck.

Anyway, not sure Seattle's issues was Bevell. They've been really bad about fixing glaring holes in the offseason for the offense.

Curious to see if Bevell or Tom Cable was the problem, can't have a functioning offense if your O-line can't protect your QB or create running lanes.
