ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was stopped by police for speeding just hours before the team’s Thursday night game against the Carolina Panthers.

According to Ross Township police, Brown was cited for going in excess of 100 miles per hour southbound on McKnight Road near the intersection with Babcock Boulevard.

Brown was cited for reckless driving.

I know that's a surface street.......WTF was he thinking.

Sword-wielding ex-NFL player Charlie Rogers charged on terroristic threats
Stephen Edelson, Asbury Park Press

ABERDEEN - Charlie Rogers, a former NFL player and local football star, was arrested by the Aberdeen Police Department on Monday for wielding a sword and making terroristic threats at a youth basketball event, six weeks after leaving a voicemail threatening a youth football player.

According to Aberdeen Police Chief John T. Powers, Rogers, who played and coached at Matawan Regional High School and also coached at St. John Vianney High School, turned himself in Monday and was also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, stalking and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was taken to the Monmouth County jail in Freehold Township. The state did not seek to detain him after his initial appearance, so he was released.

The next step would be for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office to bring the charges to a grand jury. There has been no announcement if they will proceed or when it could happen.

Rogers brandished the sword during an Oct. 5 incident at the Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School, during an event for parents of a local youth basketball travel team.

It’s just the latest incident involving Rogers, 42, who played five seasons in the National Football League with the Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, after starring at Georgia Tech.

The arrest comes 11 weeks after Rogers, who at the time was coaching with Matawan American Youth Football, left a profanity-laden voicemail for the parent of an 11-year-old player on another team, threatening to send his players after the child until he came out of an upcoming game.

Just hours after USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey disclosed the voicemail on Sept. 6, Rogers was fired from his job as the offensive coordinator at St. John Vianney High School. He was also suspended indefinitely by Jersey Shore American Youth Football, banning him from volunteering, coaching or serving as a board member anywhere within AYF in New Jersey.

In the voicemail left for Chris Schuster, the parent of a player who left Matawan AYF to play for the East Brunswick-based Saint Bart's Buffalos, Rogers declares at one point, "We are going to blitz every (expletive) play until your guy comes out of the game."

Matawan and Saint Bart's did play their regularly scheduled game against each other in Matawan on Oct. 7 without incident.

In the 44-second diatribe, Rogers, whose legal name is John Edward Rogers, says: "You know I'm pissed off about this (expletive) right here. And I'm telling you, I swear to God, we are going to blitz, we don't care if we give up a badge or not, we're blitzing everybody. We are blitzing every single (expletive) play. And (inaudible) that it's a bad (expletive) move, and I don't like it, and it's a stupid move and we are going to blitz every single (expletive) play. Hang that (expletive) up, Hill … every play!"

Prior to being hired earlier this year to serve as offensive coordinator at St. John Vianney under head coach Joe Martucci, who Rogers played for at Matawan Regional High School, Rogers served as an assistant coach at Matawan under Martucci from 2008 to 2011.

I believe in innocent until proven guilty. I’d put a waiver claim in on him based on his talent.

Innocent until proven guilty is for court. If you were an employer and your employee was accused of stealing from you, would you wait until he/she was convicted in court before firing them?

Not going to question why people keep dating their accuser. People in love can do crazy things.

But that accuser lied before. If it were someone else, okay. But this accuser lied last time. Reading what happened, won’t be surprised if she lied again.

I think 49ers are upset that he still was seeing her after likely agreeing to end it. Anyways, he’s talented and good against the run. And it would be nice to have an ex-49ers 1st round pick flourish with us for them to see.

No way dude. You don't think that maybe she was coerced the first time to recant her story? This happened at the team hotel, surely there were multiple people from the team there to witness it, and then he's released from the team. I wouldn't want a player who's just been arrested, released from a team, and facing domestic violence charges on my team until he was cleared of all charges. It's kinda shitty and it could backfire big time.

Have to get more information on what happened. I doubt the Rams would pick him up but, you never know. I'm sure Les is getting as much info as he can. If it's true he needs some professional help

Beat her up once and she recanted so he didn't get in trouble. Now a second instance that we know of and he's cut by the team that drafted him. This guy doesn't deserve a spot on any team let alone the Rams. No way we should even consider adding this guy. Not only all that but the guy isn't good on the field either.

Yeah, it's pretty common for legitimate chargers to get filed, then the accuser recants because "we're in love and he said he'd really stop this time". This looks exactly like that kind of pattern.

However, I'm not judging him, but the risk is too high. It doesn't matter if this is factual or not. It's heading towards becoming a pattern regardless of whether or not he's actually beating anybody. Can't take that risk.
