Well the obvious solution is to take it off and replace it with those running legs to make him even faster.

Well, wasn't expecting this.
Still need to wait for the severity and how/if it will continue to hamper him in the coming season.

Need to get CJ locked down more than ever.

Todd is my favourite player in the league so it's sad to read all this.

Is it really that bad? I honestly don’t know much about arthritis in one’s knee.

I have it and it strikes at any moment without notice. I can be walking or running and feeling great, then literally am brought to my knees with pain. Usually strikes when I am pushing off on my feet and going upstairs.

Granted I’m 51 now but I was playing competive baseball at 40 and had to quit cuz the pain was too much especially after a game or after running and jumping a lot. Still the same today. Doc says nothing I can do just PT which at my age is useless

I'm sorry to hear that man, that sounds awful.

Ugh. Again, vague third-hand reporting.

Surprised that the answer seems to be “do nothing and hope”... why aren’t they considering micro-fracture surgery?

Frankly, I’m concerned that this news might be even worse than if he had torn his ACL a second time. Again, we’ll just have to wait until they give us more accurate info.

I have to ask y'all a question. Why would a Patriots beat writer get this information when nobody with connections to the Rams has any idea? The Rams are being tight-lipped about everything with Gurley. Why are people so quick to trust this information as legitimate? This information happens to come right on the heels of the Rams saying that they're going to reduce Gurley's workload to try and keep him fresh. Seems to me that it could easily be a reporter (or a source) trying to fill in the gaps and guessing.

I'm with you. I'm not commenting about any of this until a report comes straight from the Rams.

I'm also not commenting on his re-shredded ACL we heard so much about a month ago from more "insiders."

Dumb question here.
Have you considered a replacement.
My mother got so bad (from being a ballet dancer for years) she couldn't go more than 50 yards without having to stop due to pain. Six or seven months after having it replaced she was hiking mountain trails and that was 25 years ago. I'm sure the tech is great now with knee replacements.

No matter what the in depth official diagnosis is - its apparent that riding Gurley hard through an entire season will likely result in the same situation the Rams encountered this year. Gurley is a dynamic back but lets face it there are only so many miles in an NFL RB. For that reason - I believe we will be seeing a RB1a/RB1b strategy for the Rams in 2019. The Rams have the inside track on Anderson but there are other options (i.e. Malcolm Brown, Tevin Coleman). It will require an RB1b that can take 30-40% of the load effectively. If the Rams were to pursue Anderson it would probably take $4-5m.

Its an assumption, but it may hold water. Shot in the dark kind of luck I don’t know. It is something to be concerned about regardless.

In all honesty guys love cj and would be ok with him coming back but I would love with Tevin Coleman and Malcolm brown/Kelly fighting it out for 3rd spot. Question is how much would Coleman want and I think someone will over pay for him. Then I'm going to just throw it out there what do you guys think about Ingram and how much?

Something is wrong with Todd. He had not sustained an injury. People in football talk to each other - friendships and connections span teams. This, while perhaps speculation, rings true. It would explain why he was rested, why we signed CJ, why he couldn’t cut effectively and why he wasn’t on any official injury report....

I hope this proves to be wrong, but I tend to believe it is close to the truth

Agreed. Any chance one of the mods can change the thread title to make it a little less definitive?

Just one guy with one source...

This isn’t the first time I hear about gurley having a career altering injury. Gurley himself said that the injury was really bad in week 1 and joked about giving the rams their money back from his extension. It could be that he was diagnosed with arthritis early in the year and it flared up on him at the end of the season.

I hope all of this is wrong and he’s fine but it doesn’t sound too good right now.

Every time Gurley is brought up, we have a bunch of Chicken Little'ing. Everything will be fine.

You're assuming this is bone on bone. Nobody has said that.
If I had to guess I would think he has osteoarthritis which is degenerative. He can't finish the season now in his 20s. He's already been paid and should expect a long life ahead of him. Here's the maths he better be figuring out given his current occupation, whether he lives out his life as a cripple or not. It isn't being a chicken little. It is the reality those guys have to live with long after their playing days when they are left to live with the physical ailments accrued from their playing career.

The Docs are not giving me the option for that. Keep telling me replacement does not fix arthritis. I’m at seeing a specialist in May to get more info about what I can do. I have just lived with it but now coaching my kids team it has made it very hard so now I am being more aggressive to try and fix it.

Interesting.
My mother had arthritis but also had bone on bone issues in the knee.
