Yeah no. I was also watching that game and though the pecker fans made a fair bit of noise, it's not as much as it's being made up to be.
It was a bit more early on as the Rams came out flat. But even though a few of the players tried to get their base to turn up the volume, it had little effect. And the go pack go thing sounded like an unorganized smattering of fans. It's being way over played as it has become a narrative that appears to only get pointed at the Rams.
Lots of stadiums are having attendance issues. That means their own fans are not showing up. The difference? Tickets to a game in LA are a hot ticket - even moreso as the Rams are the team to beat. When the NFL went to tickets sold rather than turnstile numbers, actual attendance took a back seat. So when they show 98% attendance, there are still a shitload of empty seats for most games.
Sure a few cities have great local attendance. But as Les said, it's just not reality to think football fans won't travel to destination areas to watch a game. It's just something you have to deal with if you are in one of them. And whether anyone wants to admit it or not, when a traveling fan base has good numbers, they are simply loud.
When we went to the opening day game in St Louis, it started out sounding like there were more shecock fans than Rams fans. There were a lot of them and they were very loud but there were more Rams fans and we ended up drowning them out. That is what I heard last Sunday and I'm sure the players did as well. Were the pecker fans louder than probably any away team crowd the Rams had heard before? Probably. So I buy that they were truly bothered by it? Meh. They probably would prefer an enormous home crowd noise. But if they really get bothered by it, it's time for a reality check.
