Call me crazy but I wasnt even mad at McVay trying to win the game with the offense. If Goff floats that pass to Higbee a bit higher (or Parker doesnt bat the pass) then the game is over basically and this wouldnt be a topic. Also with a not 100% Gurley. Those calls were anti-Fisher ball. McVay is a breath of fresh air compared to the old school coaching ways. At this point I trust our offense to win a game more than the defense. (albeit they came up big in key moments)

As someone who never played football i don't even have the gall to question decisions of High School assistant coaches.

I trust all my team's coaches until they've proven they can't be trusted. As a Gopher fan(usually am as enthusiastic over them as an with Rams, not any more)

I'm extremely frustrated with the hire of PJ Fleck and how he's taken a consistently competitive program capable of beating any conference foes who consistently play in bowl games and turned them into a team capable of being blown out by perennial bottom feeders despite recruiting at a level previously unheard of. The college recruiting star system is a shit barometer.. Give me hungry 2 star recruits over overly comfortable unmotivated 4 star kids who likely make for incompetent teammates.

If Cooks shakes off the tackle and runs for a first down, we are all singing his praises.
Play calling always gets criticized when the plays don't work

That's a hypothetical situation. Gurley or Brown could've also ran for a first down. But reality is you have to force the Chiefs to burn all three of their time outs there, especially only needing a FG to tie it. None of it matters because we won.

So Goff could have taken a knee 3 times and that would have been ok? Nah.
McVay is aggressive and took a shot.
It doesn’t work, he shoulda done something else.
It works and he’s a god.
He wanted a 1st down more than the chiefs burning 3 to
I like that

One of my good friends is a Redskins fan, and when he was announced as HC, I asked by boy what he thought of McVay? "Good play caller but makes very questionable decisions sometimes" was his response. Cant have everything I guess.

Yep, oddly enough McVay got the same 2 complaints in Washington: too pass happy and red zone issues.

The interesting thing is he openly articulates struggling with both.

Yeah, no where in my post did I say that. If you inferred that, that's on you. Running the ball with the best running back in the league is not the same as kneeling. That's a straw man argument if I've ever read one. Running with Gurley or Brown is trying for a first down while also running down the clock and forcing the opposing team to burn time outs. Throwing in those situations is extremely risky, as we saw.

Essentially those plays are running plays and the Chiefs were playing to stop the run, so going up the field a bit would have been good.

He hurt his ankle.

Per Ramswire which I cannot link here.

Thanks--yep this is being reported by Bleacher etc. now. Happened early in the game.

So I guess basically they were keeping this info on the down-low during the game, so they could continue to use Gurley as a decoy.

If the goal was to burn their 3 timeouts, your words not mine, and want to be risk averse, like you said, you aren’t playing for the 1st down. They had already held Gurley in check all night save the 1 24 yarder.
3 up the gut and giving the chiefs the ball back with a minute to go is Fisher ball.

Jesus this is unbelievable. We score 54 points to beat an insanely good offense when our defense is struggling to get a stop and people want to complain he isn't running the ball enough??? WHAT?

Chiefs took away the run man. If McVay had ran the damn ball into the teeth of that BS we would have lost and fans would be callin for an intervention for the opposite reason.

Stop. Seriously.
It happens every week in the game chat regardless of opponent or score.

It may have been on his first carry.

He was rolled up from behind as he went out of bounds and half-limped back to the huddle.

I said you need to run the ball and force the opposing team to use all their time outs. My exact phrase was "Gurley or Brown could've also ran for a first down. But reality is you have to force the Chiefs to burn all three of their time outs there..." I can link my post for you if you'd like. You and your straw man argument somehow twisted that into three straight kneels and a punt. Excuse me but those two scenarios are nothing at all alike.

Running the ball is significantly less risky than passing when considering turnovers. Running the ball is significantly less likely to stop the clock. Running the ball also takes up more of the clock versus an incompletion. Trying to pick up a measly ten yards on the ground while forcing the opposing team to burn three time outs is just being considerate of risks and playing to probability. Those two goals are not mutually exclusive, especially given the fact that both Gurley (minus the long run) and Brown were averaging a shade under 4 yards per carry. Last time I checked, 3x4 > 10.

It was 15 yards after the False Start before 1st down. If you run the ball 3 times in that situation (a stacked box when they can sell out to stop the run) you are basically saying we are going to punt. I personally don't have a problem with being aggressive and trying to pick up the first down. Doesn't make you wrong, in fact if I was the HC, I would probably run at least 2x. But, if Parker doesn't make a great play, it is an easy first down, and game over.

We're 10-1. We have the best record in the NFL. Sean McVay doesn't need an intervention, unless you think winning is bad. ;)

You're correct. However, I go back to the game against Green Bay. Everyone in that stadium knew Gurley was getting the ball to close it out. But it was 3rd and 10. Running it would mean giving up, right? Nah. Toss, left side, Gurley picks up 15, falls down, end of game.

You can look at plays and situational football objectively, regardless of the outcome of the game.

How did he achieve that against Seattle earlier this year? Against Green Bay?

Running the ball with this team is not a give up play.
It was 1st and 15. It is great that you can ignore that, but McVay Couldn't. We have an aggressive HC, like everything else in life there are pros and cons.

I addressed you in a follow up post. Relax. We ran the ball against Green Bay on 3rd and 10. Gurley picked up 15 to ice the game. That's precedent that shows that McVay doesn't consider running the ball giving up.

I think most would agree 3rd and 10 is more difficult to convert than 1st and 15.
