McVay needs an intervention

after the 2nd down incompletion you cant risk another. gotta force them to use a TO. leaving a little under 1min to go with 1 TO is okay, but 2 TOs can be a huge problem when only up a fg.

Certain points of the game call for certain plays. I like the aggresiveness but situationally sometimes you need to make the other team burn TOs. 2 run plays could of been called, leaving KC with 0 and threw on 3rd down. It didnt hurt us last night but calls like that may eventually cost us a game.

They needed a first down and the Chiefs focused on Gurley all game. He had to pass and should have gotten the first down, except for the third down call, which was a bad call

There are a few reasons we did what we did:
1. IMO, Gurley was nicked up and toughing it out. He got rolled up on early, and we saw a lot of Malcolm Brown on the next few series.

2. The Chiefs were playing heavy personnel to stop the run.

3. On that drive, they were stacking the box and overplaying the run. Ron Parker made a nice play or else we ice it with the throw to Higbee. We didn't want to run Gurley into a wall three times and give it back to Mahomes.

I think the play calling would have been different if we hadn't gotten that stupid false start. Can't shoot ourselves in the foot like that.

These moments during the games I feel like McVay is channeling his inner Martz. There are some strange similarities between the two.

and as stated in another thread - it appeared Gurley got a little dinged up early in the game. He was only able to run straight ahead.

I think people are referring to the last drive only, where we needed to run out the clock.

When you pass the ball in that situation, 3 things can happen, and 2 of them are bad.

When you run the ball, sure you might not get a first down, but its guaranteed to keep the clock running and make them use their timeouts.

I'm definitely not complaining about McVay, this guy is a gift from Odin.

Don't matter because it would've forced the Chiefs to use all three of their time outs. The fact that they got the ball back with a time out, to me, was insanity.

If Cooks shakes off the tackle and runs for a first down, we are all singing his praises.

Well, if this is the best critique of McVay, I'll take it.

I actually liked it... he did a similar thing in another game and it iced the game and everyone loved it.

I'll take this over Fisher and his play calling.. any day of the week/month/year/milenium.

Our run blocking has been poor lately. We couldn't run the ball all game. Three runs to Gurley would have been three and out. He wanted to get that first down to end the game.

I wouldn't say it's been poor blocking...as much as it's been poor plays given the situation. When KC is loading the box you don't run Gurley straight ahead.

Essentially those plays are running plays and the Chiefs were playing to stop the run, so going up the field a bit would have been good.

I liked the go for a win mentality by throwing it.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

the Run had very little chance of working based on the fact that we couldn’t run all night and were backed up 5 yards due to Whitworth false start.

Goff owned KC secondary all night. No reason not to trust your QB there to end the game.

McVay is the most talented coach in professional sports.

He will eventually lead the Rams to a Super Bowl victory. My confidence in this outcome is about 90% likelihood.

I also predict he will eventually burn out in LA leading to a seamless transition of power ala Tony Dungy except he will win rings with more than one team.

He will be featured in documentaries. The kid will be inspirational for young men for decades. There will be future HCs hired before their 35th birthday. Their success rates will be not be similar to McVay. If 10 head coaches under 35 are hired over next 20 years, 9/10 of them will not win 20 games during their first gigs.
