I was mostly responding to this bogus idea I've seen around here (not neccessarily from you) that Goff wasn't good until later in Detroit .

TBH this concept of a "QB whisperer" is something i see thrown around but i, not sure if it's even a real thing.

any examples of a QB whisperer?

Kyle Shanahan?

Really? Garrapolo was pretty much a JAG...purdy tbd.

I mean maybe... but McVays record with qb is better.

McVay had TWO 1st overall picks mainly as his Quarterbacks ( Goff, Stafford). And Mayfield for that short time was his third.

Shanny had Garoppolo (2nd Rounder) Purdy (Mr Irrelevant) and even rehabbed Sam Darnold. Also had bust Mac Jones playing decently this year.

Of course McVay also turned 4th Rounder Cousins into a force.

Love Mac but slight edge Shanny at taking worse Quarterbacks and making them productive.

And how did Shanny make out with the QB he drafted #3 overall?

I Get it...the talent shanny had lower draft talent. Mcvays guys have had significantly better numbers...seems difficult to quantify shanny being better

Shanny is a great coach, I hate that he does it for that god forsaken team
He's the best offensive mind in the NFL. I have no problem admitting that.

His offense makes it really easy on the QB, because they have not only a good run game every season, but the entire offense is built around the goal of getting to the 30 runs a game threshold.

But he's also not perfect. Lance failing in that system, with all that support, demonstrates what a terrible prospect he was. I may be wrong, but I think in his shoes McVay would not have taken him. Nor would McVay/Snead in combo have positioned themselves up there in that particular draft with those QBs. So as smart as Shanny is, he's also kind of a fuckin dumbass. And I love that.

I don't believe that Lance was all that terrible a prospect. Over drafted? Sure. But, IMO, he's more a victim of circumstances.

He entered the league after one year starting in college.

2021 – Thrust into the starting lineup on a team in it's Super Bowl window as a rookie after 3-4 games during Garoppolo injury and started a couple games. He couldn’t have been ready.

2022 - He suffers a season ending injury early in the 2nd game. Purdy stepped in and his 49ers career was basically over.

Since then he's backed up Prescott and Herbert.

He's still just 25 years old. I'd love to see a team give him a shot as a reclamation project ala Darnold.

I appreciate your input there Mrs. Lance. Hope your son figures it out.

Really???

I don't see anything in Mayfield that would make him nothing more than a good backup QB. I wouldn't want him as our franchise QB.

I actually somewhat agree with you for once. Not completely though.

I tend to think Baker is a very good QB, but misses the mark on being great.

Rams fans, and really most people credit McVay to his turn around, but what really did he accomplish here? He beat the 6-11 raiders and 5-12 broncos, while losing to the Packers (8-9) Chargers (10-7) and Seahawks (9-8)

He threw 4TDs and 2INTs while not throwing a single TD to either team with a winning record. The Raiders game was overblown tbh. He made one clutch throw, which could be argued was a better catch by Van Jefferson than throw. He didn’t really do all that much.

Did I miss the part where he had Darnold's success in the league?
Sam showed a mixed bag of promise and disappointment in his first 2 years but he did manage to throw for 6k yards and 36 td in 26 games

And 28 INTS.

But, no I was referring to a top draft selection getting another shot and not making a direct player to player comparison.
