I'm not so sure about that either.

He really seemed to be connecting Mumpfield to the Rams pre-draft just last year. Didn't make sense to me at the time, but maybe he knew something.
That's a bit of a stretch. He mentions that they should draft him not that they like him or anything else. Mumpfield is a McVay type of WR a guy who blocks and runs good routes. It's not a stretch at all to think he'd fit in with the Rams.

IMO this would be the first time ever Riddick has had "inside information" on the Rams so color me a skeptic.
I hope you're right because I really don't want the Rams to use a first round pick on Simpson.

Just to be safe, could you make a few phone calls ...

I'm not even against it but I guess I find it hard to believe that after a month or more of very public speculation that the Rams could or should draft Simpson this comment by Riddick signals inside information.

I didn't even see that tweet. I saw him on NFL Live or something.

Either way, McVay is not the only coach that likes those types of WRs.

Or he really knows that someone in the Rams organization or the organization likes the kid.

Some media people have relationships with people in team personnel departments. For example, at one point Riddick and Ray Farmer were up for the same job as Jets GM awhile back. Maybe a relationship was formed then or even before that time. Todd McShay claims to have exchanges with Les Snead. Brugler claims he talks to teams. He got his start by being some sort of intern with scouts or something. It happens.

But as previously stated, that doesn't mean he has any idea what their future draft board may look like or that they plan to take a player, if available, at one of their selections.
He might. The Rams may love the kid. Though, it's also possible the Rams could be using him to launder this opinion in the media if they're trying to bait a team to trade up over them for Simpson (hoping a different player will fall). It's that time of the year.

Though it would be a little early, that is clearly another possibility.

I doubt it, but maybe you are one.

Still at least with Riddick it's possible that he has some good information.

If Riddick would have mentioned other teams when I heard him I'd totally discount the view. But, he didn't.

With his Tyler Shough man crush last year he was calling off teams left and right.

Or he's been listening to and reading the talk for at least a month that the Rams should draft him. Nobody obviously in the Rams have said anything and nobody with known ties to the Rams has said anything. Just all the armchair experts out there say we're going to draft him. The same experts that say we need a RT in the 1st round btw.

Sounds like something common sense would allow.:laugh2:

These guys aren't in a bubble 24/7 without relationships around the league. Scouts don't work for and pledge allegiance to the same teams their whole lives. And some media people were even NFL personnel people themselves like Riddick used to be at one time with I believe 2 or 3 different teams. He didn't just put his head down and not talk to or form relationships with anyone.
Riddick's a clown. You want to hang on his shit knock yourself out. Go buy that Simpson jersey!

While all of that is possible, too, it is also possible that he talked to someone with the Rams that likes Simpson. That's all I'm saying.

I'm truly amazed at how impossible this sounds to some of you.

That's your opinion.

And I'm not hanging on anything. You are. I'm the one open to possibilities while you are not.

Go burn that Simpson jersey!

I'm not saying it's impossible at all I said if he has insider info it's the first time he ever has. I'm one of the only ones that hasn't thrown a fit at the possibility of drafting him. I've said they could draft him if McVay likes the tools.

None of this is about Simpson

I don't think Riddick has any inside info from the Rams and he put this out reading what everybody in the NFL draft world has been saying is a possibility for months. It's entirely too convenient and generated him a lot of clicks and discussions for me to believe he suddenly has insider info. While keep in mind Snead is on vacation and McVay just came back from one. Nobody who makes a difference in the Rams brass has been around for him to talk to.

I'm not sure how closely you follow Riddick if at all. And I don't know if he has inside information or not.

But, I do understand how NFL media have relationships with NFL personnel people. And it's possible that Riddick could have gotten information that he let slip this time that he hadn't before. Who knows?

Now my guess is that there's a snowball chance of any inside information coming from Snead or McVay (who may not have even discussed much in they way off college talent yet). But, scouts and other personnel staff can express opinions to certain media while running in the same circles. And other NFL media that he works with at ESPN may even have some connections and told him something. Again. Who knows?

I didn't think Kiper had any inside information at one point until he put Ernest Jones in his final mock draft to the Rams at the very selection the Rams took him. Jones wasn't on any of his big boards and wasn't even discussed as a day two player by anyone that I can recall at the time.

I get all that. I also could see how he or somebody he knows asked somebody in the Rams organization if they liked Simpson. That person said "sure he's a good QB".

And a headline is created. All I'm saying is there's no reason to put any more faith in this tweet from him than any of the other things that are floated in this current season we're in called Silly Season.

My scenario is just as plausible as yours.

Man, ya'll love to squabble... It does make for good chuckles tho. :-)

Carry on...
No squabbling no anger no irritation none of that stuff. Two or more people discussing a difference of opinion on a subject. It used to be acceptable to do that. Memphis does great with draft and free agency stuff and as I've said before I appreciate his work. I post tweets others disagree with and if somebody feels like discussing it no problem I'm open for discussion.

I don't believe anyone has put much faith in his statement (don't know about his tweet) at all, but otherwise, we agree.

After this year and knowing how close they are to getting back to a SB as well as the end of 9’s career they will not be taking a QB in the first round.

They have a few pieces they need to have a solid roster before they make the next move in 27 or 28 to replace Stafford.
