All fair points.

I just think, being objective, that the turnovers, especially pick 6s, were the difference.

So, would Favre be a tier 1 guy? He’s pretty high on the all time int list.
This isn’t a Trent Dilfer situation, Stafford could be argued to be the reason the rams won the 49er and Tampa games and a big reason they came back and won the SB, and how is Herbert tier 1 and Stafford isn’t? Herbert threw for 5k, 38 tds and 15 picks. Stafford went for 48k, 41 and 17, how bout Mahomes? Absolutely tier 1 right? 48k, 38 and 13 and 98 qbr to Stafford’s 102. Joe cool? 46k, 34, 13.
I guess there’s gotta be more to these tiers than just numbers Cuz Stafford’s stack up pretty well but I have no idea what it is cuz it’s not playoff wins or a fat ass ring since Herbert’s never been to the playoffs at all.
Stafford did a lot of losing in Detroit, I guess acknowledging him as a tier 1 guy would mean admitting to being wrong about him.

I pointed out the pick 6s. You could add the turnovers inside the 20.

I guess I’d agree in that I’d keep a Stafford where he’s in.. but would make tier 1 bigger to include him.

He also is not getting credit because he plays for McVay, who took Goff to a Super Bowl.

No, he's doesn't get credit because everyone still see the Lion helmet/jersey on him. Sadly playing for a dumpster fire franchise for over a decade leaves permanent scars on fans. If this super bowl victory couldn't change that, nothing will.

Plus I imagine a lot of these people got bitch slapped by reality when they thought he wasn't very good and then he wins the super bowl. Time to double down on your error.

Stafford and Burrow this past year crashed the great QB party. It's easier for the media to make room for Burrow because he's young and cocky. But Stafford is gonna require stages for them to realize he's at the top of his game.

And btw I don't think last year he was at the top of his game (reg season ups and downs). I think he still had a lot of the same bad habits that playing for a shitter tends to build. But I think this year he probably will be. There's every reason to think that is going to happen.

Dude completed 70 percent of his passes and wasn’t dink and dunk. Lead a team with a shit Oline to the Super Bowl.

He got hurt his rookie year but was tearing it up.

Not sure what nits we’re picking.

I posted my top 10 in a different thread. I copied it here and put a line under my tier 1 guys this time, FWIW. I just don’t feel like the guys from #7 and beyond are among the elite QB’s right now. Arm talent, clutch, leaders, experience, Uber competitive, tough both physically and between the ears. IMO the top 6 here have more of all that sauce then the rest.

1. Allen
2. Rodgers
3. Mahomey
4. Stafford
5. Brady
6. Wilson
_______________
7. Herbert
8. D. Watson
9. L.Jackson
10. Burrow

he had like an 89 rating his rookie year... he was doing well for a rookie but that was 24th ranked.

yes last year he was good - but its one year

A top 5 Qb after one complete season seems silly

Okay, so "2nd Tier" must be current World Champion QB with the best 4th Qrt QB rating? I can agree with that!

You raise a damned good point here, Merlin.

I, too, feel that we have not yet seen Stafford’s ceiling. He’s still unfolding his wings after all those years in a cramped Lion O.

Now he enjoys the perfect HC, WR’s, and a damned good OL while knowing that this Ram D can help save him from the occasional aggressive mistake.

I fully expect him to have his best season ever.

I too he will look even better this season. Top 3 behind.

1. Brady - Goat 6 rings
2. Rodgers - body of consistent work
3. Stafford/Mahommes tied into

What happens with all that if Tartt holds onto the int?
Fair enough, but what if Ramsey holds onto the pick 6 Jimmy G String threw to him? We could play the what if game all day....

FIFY - asterisk needs to be next to him whenever you have Brady in a list - I would put him as Number 1 Cheater of all time

So, lets also take into account how they describe these "Tiers". I am fine with the rankings. If anything, I would swap Herbert for Stafford. See below:

TIER 1

A Tier 1 quarterback can carry his team each week. The team wins because of him. He expertly handles pure passing situations. He has no real holes in his game.

TIER 2

A Tier 2 quarterback can carry his team sometimes but not as consistently. He can handle pure passing situations in doses and/or possesses other dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above Tier 3. He has a hole or two in his game.

TIER 3

A Tier 3 quarterback is a legitimate starter but needs a heavier running game and/or defensive component to win. A lower-volume dropback passing offense suits him best.

TIER 4

A Tier 4 quarterback could be an unproven player (not enough information for voters to classify) or a veteran who ideally would not start all 17 games.

TIER 5

A Tier 5 quarterback is best suited as a backup.

His rookie performance was damn good. Period. Especially when you consider circumstances.
Putting him in top 5 after leading that team to the Super Bowl and performing the way he did makes sense to me.
