I would put money down that they haven't even given him the bare outline of a contract yet.
C'mon man. Stafford and the Rams have been rumored to be discussing this shit since last offseason. Of course both sides know where the rough target ranges are for the other. And they don't agree. Thus this situation.

Guys! They're letting him talk to other teams to gage where the market is. I would put money down that they haven't even given him the bare outline of a contract yet. I suspect Rams have a ballpark dea what other front officers are gonna offer and want Stafford and agents to get a bit more clarity on that so that everyone comes to the table with even more information to make a firm contract outline.

This development should not move the needle at all on what the odds have always been, something like 80% chance Stafford back with us. Doesn't mean something doesn't change but this shouldn't move the needle.

Negotiations!
It only moves the needle for me because you don't see it much. I can't think of many examples where teams felt the need to do this. Brandon Aiyuk, but he was very close to being traded. I hear you though. They clearly want to get an extension done.

I would think if a team WANTS a package deal - that is a more valuable trade than separate trades to 2 different teams. I hate even typing this but if Pitt wants both - let’s start with R1.2025, R3.2025, R2.2026, R5.2026.
Change that round 2 to this year and round 3 to 2026 with an escalator to round 2 if they make it to the AFC championship. That would be a decent start lol

Who cares what Stafford considers. Rams need to make the smart business move if he indeed wants to move on. He made money and won a Superbowl for us after we traded for him to leave that shitty Lions situation. Rams need to focus on getting the best deal possible, this is a business after all. If teams really covet him, submit your best offer or we won't trade him to you should be the message.
The Rams care. They are not going to move a player of his caliber somewhere he isn't good with. Also doing that opens up him saying fuck you I'm retiring. And they can call his bluff, but that eats into his value in trade. So bottom line is when this situation happens you put it out there that you expect a top pick, which the Rams reportedly have. Then you let the QB find a spot he likes where the pay is there too. Then you work the deal.

Now whatever team sells Stafford on his future with them will have already known the rough cost of the trade as well, due to the cost having already been discussed. Also they can concurrently discuss these details with the team as they proceed with Stafford. Comms are all connected on this stuff.

Why would he have to consider them? I'm unaware of a no trade clause he has.
No team will trade anything of value for a guy that just might decide to retire instead of playing without a new contract. So he has a lot of say.

He’s made almost $400M. The only reason he is still playing is because he wants to win another Super Bowl and go to the HoF. That’s literally it.

You guys are straight up living in a fantasy world. *IF* Stafford gets traded, he is going to give Snead 1-2 acceptable teams. And Snead is going to get the best deal possible with those teams. That’s how this will work.
Give it up I already argued with them about this point and they think that stafford will just get traded anywhere and go willingly.

Which you don't have to think more than 2 seconds about to realize how dumb that sounds.

But yeah you are wasting your words.

Because if he threatens to retire that will back off suitor teams and shit on his value in trade. The best path forward for the Rams is allowing him to find a spot where he's happy, and that team then works the deal with the Rams.

That's stupid business then. Sorry but trading Stafford is investing in kick starting a roster overhaul to jives better with our young roster. Why would they refuse the best offer for the franchise overall for just one individual? In the NFL, paying a premium for a top notch QB is a must. If teams want him that bad, offer a great trade or fuck off. Rams need to play hardball with interested teams.

Because Super Bowl is not a priority for the Rams next season, obviously. It’s about continuing to build the roster in preparation for a run in 2-3 years.
Not sure how you figure that. The Rams were just barely shy of going to the SB. They are not in rebuilding mode. They are in win now AND in the future mode. And that is where I believe they are planning to be for the foreseeable future.

Even if they trade Staff, they will be trying to do it in conjunction with the right moves to keep them in it.

It will be a tougher hill to climb IMO. But I think once you lower expectations, it is even tougher to climb out of that hole.

He's not retiring, he's literally said that. This I'm taking my ball home crowd is delusional as hell. The man wants to play ball. Guess we aren't believing in what players actually said now? :laugh1:

I get the angst... but stafford himself nor any of the rams organization has said one word about any of this.

We live in the day and age where anyone can say anything and it becomes a source.

Now this I'd be shocked and highly doubt would happen. Tua's brain has been rattled way too much. Rams would be called out big time if that happened and rightfully so.
Miami would take a dead cap hit of 58 mill if they traded Tua.
Whoever would have suggested that is clearly clueless.

Lets go with your thought here. How many teams can and will pay him 3 years $210 million? And now off that list how many of those are going to give him a better chance to win games let alone a Lombardi? He may have say in it but he himself is limiting his options if money is what's most important to him he'll go where we trade him. Again this all comes down to that pay request and if it isn't this idiotic $70 million a year he'll stay a Ram.

Obvious how?
Don't you love when people think a competitive group like Snead and McVay assume they are just gonna mail it in? Every team has to have contingency plans for building a roster that can compete for a championship. Didn't a lot of us, me included, make that mistake when they went young on the defense?

It sounds like you'd be shocked how little they've actually talked numbers and how much closer the discussions have been to what we've done on here.

Sure, we're looking in the 50s AAV. And last year definitely informs it for sure BUT TEAMS DIDN'T EVEN GET INFO ON HOW MUCH THE CAP WAS GOING UP TILL LAST WEEK!

I don't see any contigency plan that would move us forward and not backward.

I heard kirk cousins name floated around as well.
