On Dart, I shared your exact sentiment about 3 weeks ago. Then someone made a good point that at this exact moment last year, Bo Nix was considered in that same 2nd to 3rd round range. Many swore he wasn't 1st round worthy.

And then...he was selected in the early 1st round. And then...he performed very well. A lot will change with value boards between now and the draft. It's too early to say who's 1st round talent and who isn't.

I'm not proposing the Rams overdraft a QB but I'm thinking an option they're considering is resetting the position with an early pick on a rookie contract. Remember, Jalen Hurts was a 2nd round pick.
Still don't think we should force it. For every Bo Nix, you'll get a bunch more Daniel Jones. If they go that route, I pray to God the Rams know what they are doing since I've yet to see McVay completely develop a young QB. That's a big ass risk if you ask me. We'll see what happens because no matter what they do, I'm always along for the ride :laugh1:

So a Pittsburgh trade that didn't include their 1st would be something like: 2025 #52, 2025 #122, and 2026 2nd.

That would give you ammo for QB hunting next year if needed.

I get the concern. Two things give me hope that we don't end up in Daniel Jones type purgatory.

Our GM and scouting dept. with Snead is much better than what the Giants have. Snead and company are who identified Goff who turned out to be a very good QB. They know talent.

Secondly, McVay is a superb HC. He's been competitive even when we've thrown out back up types like Wolford and Garoppolo. I seriously doubt he bombs with a young talent who is levels above the back up types.

I hope not, but there is literally zero examples with this regime working with a young QB. That part makes me a bit nervous. I also pray we don't get another Stetson Bennett.

Yep. I had this thought when I woke up this morning...but one step further.

What if the Rams are thinking of trading Stafford to say Pittsburgh for 21 and taking Dart then? Sign a bridge QB like Fields, Garappolo, Wilson, etc. to compete for a year.
I've always been open to a bridge guy like Fields or Zach Wilson. What if, in our system they thrive? Fields would be an additional wrinkle in our offense. By the sounds of it, McVay wants that option of a mobile guy back there.
Unfortunately there's only a few routes to go there. Jimmy G, Cousins, Carr (might get cut) or Darnold yes shitty options, I'd probably roll with Jimmy G string, I just threw up by the way. Reason I'd rather go blue chip is because Dart is not a 1st rd QB. I get some like him, but no way in hell is he a 1st rd QB. He's only being discussed there because QBs tend to get pushed up the draft board if the draft class is lacking which it is. I'd rather the Rams add some sure fire talent a la Verse. I got to also assume that trading Stafford creates a shit ton of cap space for FA. I'd go either WR, TE, or CB with those first 2 picks in an attempt to shore up those deficient areas. If Dart doesn't last until our 3rd just draft another young QB behind the vet such as McCord or Riley.
Darnold will be damn near as expensive as Stafford, and wilts under playoff pressure. Carr and Cousins is gag worthy. Jimmy G can't throw deep or even mid very well IMO. Only FA I'd have interest in is Z.Wilson and Fields. Dart is a lock 1st rounder, likely above our pick. McCord is gaining some steam too and may end up having to be picked at our pick if we wanted to be sure. I think he ends up in the 2nd by the time the draft rolls around.

Not having that 2nd rounder really sucks right now. I did say that the options outside of Stafford suck in comparison to keeping Stafford. Not meaning to talk shit but I guess I'll never understand why an NFL player that has so much money they've made over their career needs a shit ton more. Guess I'd have to be super rich to understand that lol..... Come on Matt give us a fucking huge discount hahahaha

They got to the playoffs first in Goff’s 2nd season and first with McVay, Sb the next year
How much more of an example is needed?

I'm talking about a rookie since we are talking about drafting one...guess I got to be specific since Goff was semi rookie-ish lol. Ok so what happened to Goff by the way? Oh right, he got traded because we couldn't win it with him because teams figured him out and McVay had to call the plays perfect for Goff to succeed aka he got frustrated with the young guy.... my bad I forgot :laugh1:.... I'll say it again, don't mind drafting a young one because it has to be eventually done but I'd also don't want to force the pick. If we have that second rounder I feel more comfortable taking a chance on someone in the first. Wish we had it, oh well lol

I hope not. It would mean to me the SB is not the goal. The budget is. It would also put us right back to where we were in 2020. Looking for a QB that could take a SB ready team all the way. Seems more like shooting ourselves in the foot.
The Rams have always paid the going rate for quality. Some would say over paid. Anything is possible, but not making it work with Stafford would really say a lot.
Agreed. I’m just trying to figure out what they may be thinking. The factor that this deal with Stafford isn’t already done has me worried.

Well the Stafford deal was announced the day of the Superbowl so maybe they’re just looking to repeat history

WAWTIA - The Stars have aligned, just another full circle.
You can already see my craziness, but when one gets Older- the book gets bigger & other chapters revise themselves.
Not sure what WAWTIA is. I’m afraid to ask. But can you splain it to me?

Also, just out of curiosity, how old are you?

Raiders have a ton of cap space as does Tennessee. It doesn’t matter if Stafford thinks they have a chance as long as the team does.
it could get interesting if teams did start to inquire
Stafford is not going to play for either of those teams. He’d retire first.

If he's playing hardball, I honestly could care less about doing right by the player. Get the best you can and if he doesn't want to play for those teams, come back to the negotiating table. Tired of the Rams getting shit for value on trades.

That’s how you become a franchise that no one wants to play for. Trading Stafford to a scrub team would be the worst PR ever possible for the Rams front office.

Not to mention that Stafford is *still* a top 5ish QB and the best option for this team at QB. This is a silly discussion.
