Yeah can't rule out the competitive spirit. On the surface that might be accurate, however, if you feel you are the best, what better way to prove that then to beat the best.

Further complications include, isn't the 2023 class eligible for extension next year? They either have to sign AJ now so his contract isn’t up once Turner, Puka, and Avila need signed or they move on and try to get that young Left Tackle in place after the last two draft classes get resigned.
I’d prefer they sign him because 2-4 years of plugging a declining or not do good player into that spot does not sound like a worthwhile risk. In fact if they sign him now, they may be able to move on from him once the stars of the 2024 draft need new contracts.

He's staying. Honestly hope we do not regret this. Likely the last chance we will get anything for him. Indifferent on this.
Who cares about all that, he's our QB, that's all that matters nowHe was NEVER leaving. It was ALWAYS the LA RAMS!
Exactly. It truly depends on what the restructured contract is and also what was ultimately offered.

The Rams posted on twitter... I'd say its official.Sorry, but are we taking Twitter as gospel now?
Until it appears on the official Rams website, I'm not convinced.
My gut tells me someone will definitely overpay in a weak free agent market. I also believe our fall back plan is either Josh Simmons or Josh Connerly at 26 if available. Any other tackles drafted after them could probably be had in trade down to the 2nd round. I also took Banks, Campbell and Membau off the table, gone long before.I'm guessing Rams would be ok giving him a contract of an average LT ($15ish mil a year) but free agency doesn't care about that sometimes. If he is the only young and decent LT to hit the market he could get stupid money from a desperate team. I don't see the Rams paying him that and going another route. There's also questions about his suspension and past medical issues that only the Rams know about fully. There may be reasons they don't want to commit long term big cap numbers to him.
