Right. I acknowledge there's a chance MS leaves, although I personally still think it is very unlikely.
One thing Breer doesn't mention is the reality of the ever-exploding salary cap. It's just going up by HUGE amounts every damn year. It will continue to rise even more rapidly in coming years-- especially with the new way they calculate Nielsen ratings. I admit I'm no cap expert, but IMO even a 2 or 3 year deal that averages 50 to 54 M per year would still leave the Rams with a manageable cap in 2027 and beyond. I think that in three years, a 52M AAV for an elite QB will look like a total bargain, even cheap.
So yeah, IMO the Rams' public suggestion that a 50M-54M AAV for MS will "break the cap" is bullshit, frankly. With the ever-expanding salary cap, the Rams can pay MS current fair market value for 2025 and 2026 AND still be in good shape in 2027 and beyond.
