Does it really make sense for a rebuilding team to trade a bunch of high picks for Watson? It seems to make more sense for a team that may only be a few free agent signings away from being a playoff team.

Can a rebuilding team give up four first round picks? If their Gm does not regularly hit on mid round picks I’d say no. However a Deshaun Watson would get instant attention and buzz from the fans. So financially maybe it makes sense, especially for a team like Jacksonville that needs to pump some excitement into the fan base.

It make no sense whatsoever as those selections stand a greater chance to be high selections. Selections that give a rebuilding team a better chance at building the roster.

I hate it, but I think Watson may wind up in San Francisco.

A whole lot of assumptions and theories about something not happening in here. If I was a player who just got the shit kicked out of his body for five months and had to deal with constant media and fan attention that whole time the last damn thing I'd do for at least a month after the season ended would be worry about posting my opinions or two cents on social media. I'd be floating in a pool drinking margaritas.

That's further smoke like what I was talking about earlier.

Where are the players.

It's been days and how many players gave him one of those "was epic to play with you. Go get it in Detroit!" type messages?

I'm not on the insta... hate instagram, but I'm on twitter and haven't seen a single mention.

They could be sending him text messages or telling him in person.

On this work ethic topic, nobody is accused of work ethic issues if they truly work hard.

It seems to come up every time a player doesn't live up to a big contract.

I could tell you about somebody's work ethic if I worked with them and had direct knowledge, but it's much harder to gauge from a distance.

The real reason Goff was traded:

You mean the Ravens? Saffold signed with the Raiders in a similar situation. We got both back, lol.
Tomato, tom-ah-to
Point being he was gone, and then he was back.
Some comments about his departure had to be dialed back

With Jareds contract, I have a hard time believing any team was willing to make calls about Goff if his work ethic was a legitimate issue.
I think that line about him not preparing well might have truth to it and yet might be totally misinterpreted at the same time. Tons of big time sports stars are privately not the work obsessed people they play on TV. Different guys have different gears, some find rhythms that work for them. Marshall Faulk for instance wasnt all business - he was just that good. Goff doesn't miss games. That means he takes care of his body. Does he not watch enough film? Maybe this year he wasn't watching enough at Rams Park? Who knows, but usually young guys take time to figure things out and this year has been very different. No telling how it changed his habits.
I think as our O took a step back, egos started showing.
Goff didn't get drafted first overall, play with a different staff every year, and get all those wins and big games and go out and complete 12 straight passes and 11 straight passes and 10 straight passes (Without Scripted Plays!) by not working hard. The guys at the Lions KNOW him.
The reason this cost so much is because of the relationship between Stafford and McVay and therefore we had to go above and beyond to make that happen.
In order to soften up the fanbase to an idea that would have been an absolute headfuck without it, Les and Sean went out of their way to create the drama that would prepare us.

I think all of this has more to do with Stafford than Goff and yes, I fucking love McVay - but I think he talks more about taking personal accountability than he probably actually does. Jmho. Its like anyone who says "trust me" all of the time. I think McVay does put the team first, works extremely hard, is a great coach and wants to win a superbowl. And I also think he isn't above criticism and isn't without his warts. It doesn't seem like any of his offensive assistants need more than a season to learn all they need to.. might not be a coincidence.

I like the guy, love the coach and hope I am right that he will keep us contending for a long time. I don't care if he can be a dick... but I don't like hypocrisy... it's the fucking worst, so as long as he keeps us winning and practices what he preaches, then he can throw Stafford under the bus next year, say he needs to draft his own guy and fire the special teams coach again but if our O-line blows and our play calling is stale and our offense lacks any explosive playmakers and we are running on third and long because _______.... then he will no longer be that awesome coach we all love..
Just another young guy with too many accolades too soon and started reading his own press.

I believe in him and just dont want him to burn himself, or this team, out too soon.

I hate to throw into the speculation but Goff's decline did start in late 2018 right about the time he started dating his super hot model girlfriend

Here's the article where Snead talks about how good Brad Holmes is
What a great read thx for posting that. Probably deserves its own thread it's so good.

"There's a tendency in the first round to over-index that freakishness with some of those prospects," Gladstone continued. "You have to establish these categories that you care about and one thing shouldn't rule the day so much, that physical freakishness shouldn't rule the day. And I know Les would probably say this that in the case of (former No. 2 overall pick) Greg Robinson that probably did.

"But you have to do that in advance of seeing anyone and remain disciplined, otherwise you'll convince yourself of a different story. The one that you may want to hear. The second third and fourth round, actually the picture becomes clearer. From my vantage point, I love living in those rounds because that's the good football players. These are the types who play football really well but for whatever reason don't display the freakishness that land them in the first round."
