With Jareds contract, I have a hard time believing any team was willing to make calls about Goff if his work ethic was a legitimate issue.
I think that line about him not preparing well might have truth to it and yet might be totally misinterpreted at the same time. Tons of big time sports stars are privately not the work obsessed people they play on TV. Different guys have different gears, some find rhythms that work for them. Marshall Faulk for instance wasnt all business - he was just that good. Goff doesn't miss games. That means he takes care of his body. Does he not watch enough film? Maybe this year he wasn't watching enough at Rams Park? Who knows, but usually young guys take time to figure things out and this year has been very different. No telling how it changed his habits.
I think as our O took a step back, egos started showing.
Goff didn't get drafted first overall, play with a different staff every year, and get all those wins and big games and go out and complete 12 straight passes and 11 straight passes and 10 straight passes (Without Scripted Plays!) by not working hard. The guys at the Lions KNOW him.
The reason this cost so much is because of the relationship between Stafford and McVay and therefore we had to go above and beyond to make that happen.
In order to soften up the fanbase to an idea that would have been an absolute headfuck without it, Les and Sean went out of their way to create the drama that would prepare us.
I think all of this has more to do with Stafford than Goff and yes, I fucking love McVay - but I think he talks more about taking personal accountability than he probably actually does. Jmho. Its like anyone who says "trust me" all of the time. I think McVay does put the team first, works extremely hard, is a great coach and wants to win a superbowl. And I also think he isn't above criticism and isn't without his warts. It doesn't seem like any of his offensive assistants need more than a season to learn all they need to.. might not be a coincidence.
I like the guy, love the coach and hope I am right that he will keep us contending for a long time. I don't care if he can be a dick... but I don't like hypocrisy... it's the fucking worst, so as long as he keeps us winning and practices what he preaches, then he can throw Stafford under the bus next year, say he needs to draft his own guy and fire the special teams coach again but if our O-line blows and our play calling is stale and our offense lacks any explosive playmakers and we are running on third and long because _______.... then he will no longer be that awesome coach we all love..
Just another young guy with too many accolades too soon and started reading his own press.
I believe in him and just dont want him to burn himself, or this team, out too soon.
