Yeah that GM will be out of the league two years from now IMO. You gotta build relationships and be able to compromise to be a GM in this league. Because sitting on a player as valuable as Watson means you're gonna lose and every loss is a milestone along that road to being fired. He's gonna have a ton of them here in the next couple years no way he survives that.
Yeah, I agree. I think the best decision he could make would be to get a haul and draft Watsons successor. Call next year a scratch and build a family in that locker room with a unified front. Too much division will get the team no where

Well, you initially made a point to say it was proof that he was not liked... Then still held it out as a possibility due to no goodbye tweets.

So, you should also consider it a possibility then that it wasn't a popular move with his teammates... Right?

I mean you use that assertion as possible proof. So just showing how absurd that is. Its a nice trick to slander the guy with zero proof of what your saying is true.

I would also think if Goff was the teamate grom hell all this time, that Holmes would know and would have no intention on keeping him.

Firstly, I wasn't making any point about Stafford and not gonna do the whataboutism.

Secondly, when hearing that the communications may not be allowed even as it's "official" (it isn't until the new league year), that changed my outlook. Had I known, I wouldn't have posted that.

That's why I said it made sense.

Also, I've been a pretty vociferous supporter of Goff.

I never intimated that he was a teammate from hell. That's obnoxious.

I had a worry that maybe since being paid that he didn't double down on his work like AD and Ramsey have done.

I say to my kids all the time, "put your name on EVERYTHING you do because you never know who's watching. So from the most menial task to the grandest, do it as well as you can with as much energy, focus and care as you can."

All I've been saying is that there's a possibility that Goff wasn't doing the extra. A POSSIBILITY. And I don't mean he wasn't doing anything, but when you see the example set by AD... was Goff doing THAT? Was he working on his game with the same energy that Big Whit rehabbed?

I don't know, but signs point to no...even as there were other legit issues.

That would help explain why McVay was so vexed all season.

That would explain the very inconsistent performances even when Blythe and the IOL held up.

That would explain why the defenses that did late adjustments were such a problem for Goff.

I will admit that proof was too strong a word. I mean, if it were allowed to comment and literally no one commented... while not proof (they may all be communicating privately), it would be pretty damning. Mea culpa. My only excuse was being at the end of a 17 day migraine and my thoughts weren't as crisp as I'd like, but still... better word choices were available.

Lastly, slander neither was nor is my goal.

This relationship that was pretty damn solid only 16 months ago (is that right? I'm too tired to count) is now so broken that a trade was needed.

SOMETHING happened and the one explanation that McVay is this unstable genius who capriciously falls in love with players is so beyond inane that I can't with it.

I do not believe that this was all Goff's fault. FAR from it. He bears SOME responsibility. And while I don't really care about the percentages of who bears which percentage of the burden, I am interested in HOW they go there if for no other reason than to hope they learn from this so as not to repeat this.

That's it.

And I still have 2 Goff jerseys...

Oh, and it won't be a long season unless this blows up in their face due to injury or if the drop back pass protection still sucks.

I hope he does what Tom Brady did this yr. The diff is though that this guy has never elevated his team in the past so I have concerns.

I am allowed to express those I hope?

I have concerns as well. All I can do in the off-season is hope because we have nothing concrete to critique or celebrate.

And personally, I'm done fretting in the off-season. After all those years, I learned that if we can't hold on to hope in the off-season, when can we?

Might this all blow up? Sure. There are no guarantees.

The 9ers have done an excellent job of building their franchise through the draft and... injuries decimated their team and they finished like 6-10. There's no one way to build a team and the element of luck and team health at the end of the season are vastly underrated when it comes to a team's final standing.

But yeah, of course you can express your concerns. I'll probably join you after some of the euphoria wears off (from rage, it's a bit of whiplash).

I'm glad to see it.

The idea on a personal level of Goff leaving town and no one saying anything was very sad.

There were still issues of some kind that were large enough that the trade still happened, but if the Cards game was more an indication of the players pulling extra for the gritty backup Wolford than an indictment of Goff... That makes me happy. It's kind of a relief.

As a former engineer, I'm always more comfortable with structural issues than personality/working dynamic issues. I know how to fix structural issues...

So using the “all in now” concept for 2021 (forget 2022 and beyond). The Rams gave up Goff, a 3rd round pick and increased QB cap payout by $8m to obtain Stafford for 2021. If the offense performs at the same level or improves insignificantly (say by 4 it’s per game) it will be considered a failure. If the offense improves significantly ( 5 -8 pts per game) it’s a success. If it improves dramatically (9+ pts per game) then the 2022 and 2023 first round picks will be quickly forgotten.

If you caught the Brad Holmes piece on the Rams drafting you can see that Snead feels they make their hay from rounds 2-5. They feel that in round one certain superlative traits of some players muddle the focus of going for exactly what they want. Would they like to have kept those picks? I'm sure they would, but I don't think that they feel the same way that you do about trading them away. Its more likely they wish they still had them in case another Baylor Ramsey situation came along.

C'mon.

This was Stafford as a rookie... on a bad Lions team (they had the #1 overall pick and I don't recall them trading up for it).

A 300lb DL LANDS on him (it was legal then) and wrecks his non-throwing shoulder.

Thanks to a Cleveland PI and then TO, he is able to come back into the game with no time on the clock and throw the game tying TD and they scored the GW XP to win it.

It's universally regarded as one of the guttiest performances in NFL history and it was by a rookie on a rebuilding team.

Well my bad then... Thought I saw someone mention it was from just a few yrs ago.

Still the lack of any signature wins is concerning. I mean he is not like Jay Cutler, obviously Stafford is well respected, just strange he rarely elevated his team.

Yeah I think Stafford is going to shock so many of you. He's always a fringe top 10 qb and that's even while playing for that dumpster fire. And having defensive minded coaches. Can't wait to see him with Mcvay, a running game, and a defense.

Yeah, the Whiner fans were the least concerned. I believe a lot of them are REALLY factoring in the possibility of Watson. Personally I don't think the Texans will trade him

Cards seem most level headed. Niners laughing about picks and Cards are like “well it hasn’t effected them yet”
