I’m enjoying all the OL posts, but I feel like every year McVay doesn’t get this figured out until the bullets are already flying.
IMO this (OL) should be sorted out by the end of camp, but what do I know…maybe it is already.
Agreed. Seems like every fucking year the OL slows our start.
Last year some of us were discussing this fact when we were already seeing the danger signs of Avila failing at Center. Rams tried to spin that bullshit as per usual and as teams tend to do. But bottom line is when your starting OL doesn't play in preseason you don't have a lot of wiggle room to fuck around in camp. Camp and more importantly the scrimmages become critical for live reps to polish your top five.
I think this year McVay has the OL positioned far better to be ready game one. Of course since we can never have nice things on the OL we end up of course with Jackson having the blood clot issue, and if that affects his readiness Stafford's gonna get beat to hell off the blindside. Trying to be positive here, really. I hope he can start and play a full 17 weeks for us. But we have an old pocket QB who is not his usual badass self when his blindside is unsettled because he goes full gunslinger mode.
Our division is going to be very strong. Certainly stronger than Philly's division. We have the better QB, but they have by far the better OL. If Jackson is good for 17 games then we're close to them. But there's no way in hell we'll be in the mix for the bye if Jackson is in and out of the lineup. We'll be dropping games early and end up with the usual late season run if we're lucky.
