Is that what's reported? I kinda thought Skubal would be game 2. But Snell does have a good playoff history.
Just my opinion here.

Skubal's road stats are way better than at home.

So you line up Skubal to pitch it ATL in game 3. Yama would be ready for a game 5 back in LA, if needed.

Looks like it will be ATL......unless Philly wakes from the dead....

Our LHP's need to neutralize Olsen, Harris and Baldwin.

You sure like to get ahead of yourself don't you! It's a best of three.....meaning winning game 1 doesn't win it. :laugh4:

Don't get me wrong. Atlanta has a better shot as it stands this moment but they are a hard team for me to trust. In the last 5 years, 101 wins and 104 wins doesn't get them to the LCS. And Philly, much to my disappointment, seems to have a way of coming back.

Thats why I said unless Philly wakes from the dead. They MAY win today, but ATL wins this series.

I see they don't have who is starting for the first two games. Who are the Dodgers going with in game 1 and 2?

They haven't announced it yet. But starting Yamamoto probably makes the most sense. It would be his normal rest between starts. I think maybe it will be Yoshi, Skubal and Snell. All 3 have done well in the postseason before. Whoever goes against Sale better be on his game. Sale nearly no hit the Dodgers a few weeks ago.

Yamamoto Game 1 and either Snell or Skubal Game 2. I could see them wanting Skubal to start Game 3 on the road.

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers ace Tarik Skubal will get the ball in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon, a source told ESPN on Friday. The Dodgers are still uncertain about their plans beyond Skubal, though NL Cy Young contender Yoshinobu Yamamoto would be the logical choice.

Left-hander Skubal, acquired from the Detroit Tigers in a blockbuster trade at midseason, has won the past two American League Cy Young Awards. But there was some thought to potentially starting Yamamoto in Game 1 because it would allow both to be available for a potential winner-take-all Game 5, given that Yamamoto is accustomed to working on at least five days' rest.

The Athletic was first to report that Skubal would start Game 1.

One potential factor in the Dodgers' decision: The Braves have fared better against right-handers (.730 OPS) than lefties (.696 OPS) this season. Lining Skubal up for Games 1 and 5 probably factors into that, and it could make fellow southpaw Blake Snell a possibility for Game 2.

The Braves' plans remain in flux in the wake of their win in Game 3 of their wild-card series against Philadelphia on Thursday night. Manager Walt Weiss said from Atlanta on Friday that the team would continue to iron out its pitching plans during the flight to L.A. later that afternoon.

Weiss acknowledged he'll have to rely heavily on his bullpen in the first two games. Ace Chris Sale was previously lined up to start Sunday's Game 2, but he was used to cover four outs in the winner-take-all Game 3 against the Phillies, throwing 21 pitches.

That outing could technically count as Sale's between-starts bullpen session, coming off his Tuesday start in Game 1. But the 37-year-old left-hander has been pitching on extended rest for most of the season. Taking the ball on four days' rest, with an adrenaline-packed relief appearance in between, could be too much to take on, especially in the early round of these playoffs. Still, Weiss said him starting Game 2 remains "on the table."

"That's one of the topics of discussion this morning before we leave," Weiss said. "A lot of it's going to depend on how Chris feels. Certainly don't want to jeopardize him and his health. He just happened to feel great yesterday when he got to the park, and that's why he was in play. He's had to grind here recently. So we're going to err on the side of giving him more rest, if it's even close."

This is why they traded for Skubal. He hasn't been as sharp for the Dodgers but the playoffs are a different animal.

As good as guys like Sale and Misiorowski are, the Dodgers have the deeper rotation for a longer series. Basically 3 aces and a solid 4th in Glasnow.

Yoshi is 7-1 in the postseason with a 2.25 ERA and .84 WHIP. Skubal doesn't have a lot of playoff games. But in his 6 games his ERA is 2.04 and .73 WHIP. 56 K's in 39 innings.

Snell's playoff numbers aren't as good with a 3.27 ERA. But he was tough on Philly last year. Milwaukee too. I remember how tough he was for the Rays back in 2020. I was so glad when they pulled him in the World Series game against us. He was dominant.

The bullpen is the biggest question mark in my opinion. Roberts is gonna have to do a good job managing them. Scott is much improved over last year but he does have the occasional blown save. It will be nail biting time if he's the closer. Diaz struggled for a while but he did look a lot better his last few games. Fastball was touching 99 at times.

The middle relief might be the key for the Dodgers. I imagine Wrobleski and Vesia will be the left handed guys. Sasaki might be a set up reliever for the closer.

In the postseason, pitching wins. And the more talent you have there, the better. Not every starter on any staff is going to be lights out every start. But the more talent you have, the better your chances for advancing. And of course you have to score runs......1-0 isn't going to do it (unless you're the 63 Dodgers or the 66 Orioles :sunglasses:).

Of the top 8 staffs in MLB, 7 made the postseason and 4 of those 7 got the bye. 11 of the top 15 made it. Houston #24 was the worst and they got swept.

NYY 3.24
Mil 3.51
Bos 3.54
LAD 3.55
Atl 3.63
Det
TB 3.70
CLV 3.77
Tor
SD 3.99
Phl 4.04
Balt
Mia
CWS 4.12
Cubs 4.12

Boston losing despite the #3 staff can be attributed to the Yankees having exceptional hitting in the Wild Card, almost exclusively vs their bullpen.

Looks like Atlanta might be going with a bullpen game today. Skubal on the mound to start the series. I thought being in LA it would be a 5 o'clock game. But its 1:00 today. Tomorrow gonna be a busy day. Rams at 10:00. Dodgers at 5:00. Gotta have both jerseys ready.

Its gonna be toasty for the players and fans. 101 temps today in LA. I'm a few hundred miles north of them and its gonna be the same here.

Yeah, I was so glad to see the Yankees were off on Sunday. Devote all my time to the Rams and once that's over, go back and forth between the Dodgers/Atlanta and Detroit/Carolina. And then when Monday rolls around, all about the Yankees with N.Orleans/Atlanta on MNF.

Schedule's working out good. Rams early tomorrow. I can do a few things before the Dodger game tomorrow night. I wonder how the heat's gonna affect the teams this afternoon. Triple digits in LA. But its not usually humid there like Atlanta would be in the summer. Still, its gonna be hot for the fans in the sun.

I don't know if its a broken thermometer. But the on field temps according to the one they showed was well over 120.
