He is in control, not the league, and I am proud of him for that.
And, being in control, his decision was to make zero this year.

He didn't accomplish a thing... he didn't get paid a dime and nothing's going to change as a result of his holding out. Nothing. He'll make his money but, for 2018? He loses.

Yeah, but the Steelers are acting like he does.
I haven't seen much in the way of statements from the Steelers? Franchises don't usually comment on these types of issues.

The whole thing IMO is driven by his ego and desire to be the highest paid RB in the league.

So funny. He gave up millions that he will never get back in exchange for being the highest paid RB in the league and it is highly doubtful he will get that kind of money either. Ooh... but he's "in control". Of WHAT? Egomania?

It's his choice but Cow-turd made a great point on the radio.

He was playing for a great organization that always wins and has stability - and where he was the man.

Sure maybe you can get more money somewhere else - but is the extra money really worth it?

So many players go for the money and go to a nothing team and basically disappear into obscurity and losing.

I don't see that.
He wanted long term security, Pittsburgh offered him fair contract, however guaranteed money was low. Seems to me he was more concerned with guaranteed money vs total comp

Not sure how many... but, going from a perennial contender to a perennial loser just to make money seems like a really tough trade-off to me.

Guess it all depends on what the player is after... championships... or money. Most good players who are/were stuck on bad teams would probably tell you they'd take less money just to have a chance at a championship.

Guess Bell isn't wired that way...it is a short shelf life... tough decisions.

The dumbest contract negotiation of all time . He did nothing but lose 14 million dollars

No one will pay him TG money, hes oder than todd and james Conner played just as good as bell

Bell must be a "system " runner

Does he get any of the franchise tag money, or did he just have a year where he lost 14 million dollars?

I am ashamed how the public has vilified Bell in his quest to get the contract that he wants. If your body is your temple, and it's the vessel that making you jack, do what you have to do. I am sure some of his teammates might be ticked, but they also know that they might want to be in his shoes. He is in control, not the league, and I am proud of him for that.

Nothing personal but maybe you're taking this a bit too seriously if you make the claim that you feel ashamed of public reaction yet proud of the player.

You did get one thing right though...I think his former teammates are pissed and are literally in his shoes by now....I saw a video or somethin.

Well, sure. The only fly in the ointment is Earl Thomas.

No way Bell gets anything if he had a season ending injury.

I dunno if there was a win/win scenario because Pitt was intent on going cheap and had a history of riding Bell like a rented mule. Again, that also significantly diminishes his value.

He would have got the $14.5 million from the franchise tag he could have signed.

I see your point about riding him like a rented mule, and it definitely has merit. But I'm skeptical that Bell can make up the lost money from this year, and he probably would have been a FA next year either way.

In the long run, it might be a lose-lose scenario, because players and free agents may not want to lay it on the line as much for the Pittsburgh front office.

He didn't care if he didn't make any money this year. If he cared he would have signed the tag. Don't understand why so many people are hung up on that.

He wanted to make sure he was going to make it healthy to free agency. This gave him a 100% chance to achieve that. So, yes, he is in control.

LOL they pillaged his locker.

Maybe they will put the items up on e-Bay and send him the money to help with expenses.

If they didn't get a deal done for sure he would have been a FA. And if he had played, and had a good year his chance of cashing in at the level Gurley did improved.

Red has a word for him.........

Believe me, Dog. I'm not taking it too seriously. I talk to a lot of different people through the course of the day, and when I can't get through a conversation without someone complaining about their fantasy team, or how selfish Bell is for not reporting, I get a little ashamed of the fan base. I don't take that too seriously because it's just a fact that I can live with. Football fans think they are out there on the field to entertain them or to get them fantasy points. It's just not the case. Those guys are out there to make a living with their God given ability and a crap load of training since they were kids, and no one has the right to tell them how to do it.

Will he make his money back? I don't care. If he got seriously hurt this year, there might not have been another contract at all. I choose to dislike the game not the player.
