Steelers are 0-1-1 without him, and the tie was against the Browns. Bell is smart not to take another 350+ touches before getting paid his worth.
The Squeelers are where they are because their defense can't stop a nose bleed and Ben was a turnover factory in game one. I understand Le'veon's side of things, but I doubt he makes that money back up in his next contract. As I recall, he had over 700 touches in college. More reason for him to have taken the Squeelers offer and the guaranteed money. Also the reason that a smart FO won't pay him crazy money. That's how I see it.

it's not about that. it's about being treated as a premier rb in the league. why should he risk future salary by playing for a team that was never serious about extending him and were gonna run him into the ground this season, further harming his ability to command the contract he wants in the future.

he paid his dues, he played under the franchise tag last season and played well, he earned a long term contract with actual guaranteed money. and the steelers shit all over him. fuck them.

Guy is a hell of a player who asking to be compensated in line with his skill level. This reminds me of the attacks on Donald while he was holding out. He suddenly was lacking in character too.

@jrry32 ...if a player, regardless of talent or star power, has multiple instances where he is suspended, fined, refuses to participate in football activities for any reason, then fans and certainly the team have a right to question his long term value in the face of those things arrising again.

No one actually questioning his character per se....but its fair to say this guy isnt exactly easy to work with. If he was a model citizen, then his own team mates would never have put him on blast in the media.

And if we were questioning his character....it wouldnt be "suddenly" questioning his character. He's laid it out quite nicely over the years to face that type of judgment.

As Ram fans, we should be greatful our contract difficulties have not reached these levels, with these types of undertones to go along with it.

Very well said. He has burned the team before and whose to say he won't do it again.I know a LOT of Squeeler fans, and I can't name one that wants Bell back at this point. Ultimately though, it's the Squeelers, so fuck him and fuck them too, lol.

IMO the big issues aren't that they are treating him with "due respect", it's the potential suspension for another drug issue and he has an injury history that is of course going to make the team pause over a contract bigger than Gurley's, which is what he said he wants.

He should have played this year and collected the 14MIL. The Steelers weren't going to franchise him again and pay 18MIL or so for a RB. He would have been a FA without damaging his rep.

This was a bad play by him and I suspect he may realize it soon.

Welp... who the hell wins in this debacle? From what I heard, If the Steelers want they can tag him again next year at a LESS amount.

Wow what an idiot. He's taking advice from his agent I'd assume because if he was going to do any of this he needs to have went back to get credit for this season. Everything he's done has hurt his brand and made himself look like a fool now. Sigh

Amazing how you can't see the big picture when you have everything given to you like this.

No reason to risk a potentially major injury before his big payday

You know, I get that these players need to strike while the iron is hot and get the maximum amount of money while they can. But at some point, holding out for more hits the point of diminishing returns, and those returns diminish very rapidly past that point. This is a textbook example of that. Even after taxes and his agent's cut, a 1 year deal for $14.5 million is a deal that can set up someone financially for a lifetime. Instead, Bell has foregone all that money, probably damaged his prospects for a future contract (partly from holding out and partly from giving up a year of his career in the middle of his athletic prime), and daily risks losing it all (e.g., what if he's seriously injured in a car accident or something of the like?).

Sometimes you just have to accept what you want to get is not the same as what you can get, and take the latter. If something were to happen to Bell now, he could end up getting neither.

He's not going to get a big pay day because the Steelers can just franchise him again. Him sitting out has done nothing for him but cost him money. I know this is a bit complicated but if he sit out he needed to come back this week to get credit for this season to be a FA. He just gave the Steelers the upper hand.

The Steelers appear to have won. They found a perfectly acceptable replacement for Bell and are doing quite well without him.
Soooo... that leads to?

The well is probably poisoned now... time to move on, both sides.

Connor looks to be a keeper and some team will cough up a lot for Bell.

They won’t tag him again. No team will ever use the 3rd straight tag on a player because the cost is too high. He will be a FA and will likely top David Johnson’s 3yr 39m with 30m guaranteed

He overplayed his hand from day one and tbh from the drug suspensions on he's been a very selfish player for some time now. The dude is too concerned with white knighting the RB pay scale in his desire to get every dollar he can, holding out longer because he's afraid he'll be traded, and now waiving his money and season in his desire to hit FA.

All I can say is good luck to whatever team pays that dude. He's a great player, but IMO his focus isn't 100 percent on the field and his teammates.
