first off, I think Floyd played well towards the end of the last year and that was without ad two take the double teams.
i don't understand why we would tell the rest of the league that we are going to cut him if no trade. why would teams trade for him if they can wait till we cut him and save draft picks

Well, say a team with plenty of cap space can easily take on Floyd's current contract; and really wants him. That team could throw a late-round pick at the Rams, and get Floyd.

If that team decides not to trade for him, and the Rams release him, then that team can bid on Floyd as a free agent. However, so can the other thirty teams; and Floyd may choose to sign elsewhere.

Either way, for the Rams, it's not good scenario. They are unlikely to get anything but a late round pick, if even that; and, from what I have read (Jourdan Rodrigue) it sounds like the Rams want to get all the Dead-$ out-of-the-way in 2023, so any cap savings this year will be minimal. Sucks for the Rams for 2023 ... or, so it appears.

It almost certainly was his agent that released that info. Its beneficial to Floyd to get cut rather then traded. Then he can negotiate with several teams, decide where he wants to play, and still get the bonuses we are due to pay him. There is zero benefit for the Rams to release that info.

Admit mistakes? They got rid of Goff, Gurley, Wagner, Cooks, and Woods, and now they are ready to dump Floyd, Allen Robinson, and Jalen Ramsey (apparently). And this AFTER signing these guys to huge contracts. In fact, the only guys that haven't cut yet are Donald, Stafford and Kupp, and they may all be gone next year! Not sure "mistakes" is the right word. Maybe a "re-direction"? Either way, it's hard to root for this team in the off-season when their key players are thrown away like old clothes. I am a diehard Ram fan but I would like to see some continuity along with some new additions (draft choices) once in awhile. I can't argue with the results, but it sure feels like McSnead has leveraged everything they had over the last 5 years and now they might have to pay the price. Time will tell. Go Rams!
Not sure why people think it's a matter of Ramsey being "thrown away," or labeled a "mistake,"...

Short of trading Kupp or Donald he is the ONLY asset on this team that can put them back into the 1st round. Is it really hard to believe that they want add'l draft capital? If that's the case then of course they're gonna move player(s) that can get it for them.

He doesnt get paid the roster bonus if he's released by 3/19, Rams just take the dead cap hit from his signing bonus and previous restructure.
If a team wants to trade for him, it would have to be prior to 3/19 and the team acquiring him would be on the hook for the 2 mill roster bonus unless the trade offer is lucrative enough to the Rams that they eat the 2M
Sure teams can wait, but that merely allows them to compete for his services whereas trading for him guarantees acquiring the player. Makes perfect sense as to why the Rams would float this

I doubt he's going to put us back into the 1st round. Certainly at this point it is premature to say he can do that as the market has yet to speak on him. Hope you're right of course because that would be fantastic but teams are not stupid.

I expect he puts us into the 2nd round, maybe 3rd, and even with that lesser return we may still end up with a better secondary overall in 2023.

I don't know if I'd let him go this year if he can't put us back in the first round. We're not getting much cap savings by moving him this year, and the theory was that it was worth it because moving him now strikes while the iron is hot. If the iron is only going to be lukewarm anyway, then I'd probably keep him and explore moving him again next season when the cap ramifications aren't as steep.

Floyd netting a 1st round pick? That's a movie I'd like to see always up for a good scifi drama.

I'm fine with it because I think by this time next year folks will realize the Emperor has no clothes. He's not the guy they paid, it's clear on the film on way too many snaps and I don't care what PFF or the lemmings who reload that site think.

Load him up vs Diggs. Evans. Adams. For anyone who thinks this guy is a shutdown corner I have some beachfront property to sell you in Missouri. But he definitely IS being paid as a shutdown corner. The expectation for that pay is that he removes top receivers.

Only receivers he can remove now are average ones. Vs the elites he has to hold and grab and pray he doesn't get a flag.

I bet they are talking about Ramsey netting a 1st not Floyd
Yeah, I was talking about Ramsey, not Floyd. Floyd MAYBE gets a 3rd but more likely a 4th unless another Ram pick is included. Which of course defeats the whole purpose...

I wonder why Minn wouldn't be willing to give their #23. Regardless of whether Ramsey is still the guy the Rams traded for, he's better for the next year or two I would think than any of the CBs they could grab there.

Or am I off-base?

Maybe not the shutdown guy, but still good enough to justify a 1st rounder IMO. Still one of the best in the business.

that makes more sense, but they sure made it sound like it came from the rams and i heard the rams were trying to get him to renegotiate but he wouldn't'' so it was done as a threat.

I love Floyd as a player. Unfortunately, keeping him isn't wise; he's making far too much money, money that's needed to sign Gaines and Gay. I hope we can trade him, but my gut says that we cut him, that no team will take him at his salary.

Starting to think with 15 late round picks the Rams will make do with a kicker selected somewhere in those rounds. Not a fan of that approach as being in kicker purgatory terrifies me, but I am afraid that will be the plan.
