LEONARD FLOYDEDGE, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT
Rams released EDGE Leonard Floyd.
This move was all but guaranteed to happen once it was reported that the Rams would cut Floyd if they didn't find a trade partner. To no one's surprise, they were unable to find a suitor. Now Floyd is free to sign with any team. He has at least nine sacks in each of the past three seasons plus 28 total TFLs over that span. If the Rams don't designate him as a post-June 1 release, they will save $3 million against the cap this year. Designating him as a post-June 1 cut would up the cap savings to $15.5 million.

I agree... but it seems like no one wants him.Feels like we jumped the gun on this move. I'd have preferred hanging on to Floyd at least until day 2 of the draft, hopefully seizing a draft pick from a team needing an Edge who may have missed out on another player. Announcing to the world that he'd be cut prior to free agency seems self-defeating. The Rams could have restructured some contracts to meet the CAP deadline, and we probably still will anyway to garner more space.

His former Rams salary hit will no longer be a hindrance for a team who likely will want him.
If post June 1st this gets them roughly $4.5 million in cap space after Wagner's $5 million in savings. If it's pre June 1 they'd still have to free up roughly $7.5 still if my "off the top of my head" math is correct. I'm going to assume it's post june 1st to give them some breathing room. And then any other moves they make will just add to the pot they can use to sign a couple free agents.
Won't change the cap. Looks like it was a $250k void year for 2023I'm still curious about Coleman Shelton's status, both Spotrac & Over the CAP have him listed on the roster, although we've also been told his ability to become a 2023 free agent was reached by hitting a few contractual milestones this last year. If indeed he is a free agent, then that should open about $2.5M in additional CAP space.
McVay said earlier today that Shelton was voiding his last year and is now a free agent.I'm still curious about Coleman Shelton's status, both Spotrac & Over the CAP have him listed on the roster, although we've also been told his ability to become a 2023 free agent was reached by hitting a few contractual milestones this last year. He saves $15.5M with a June 1st designation. It's the quickest way to get under the cap while their other scenarios play out.Feels like we jumped the gun on this move.
